Oh that's interesting that you left the plastic links. Is the steering sharp enough with them? Makes sense that that absorb some impacts. I had sent considered that benefit. I'm just so amazed how weak and sloppy the stock steering is that I want to ensure I solve that.

Just keep in mind that no matter how much aluminum upgrades you put in it will never be bullet proof with zero slop and it will NEVER handle like a Truggy. I am only upgrading as i break stuff and not because somebody says to. They have to suggest it and back it up with logical and real world experience.

I'm upgrading because the wheels can't even turn when stationary. I just don't like the steering response. What I do t want to do is make things more apt to break.

Yes I do. I just ordered a hitec 7955TG along with the axial kit links and rear sway.

Yeah i should mention that I'm using the Hitec 7950TH as well on 7.4v... I found that the plastic links don't lose much steering at all, the problem is the steering rack is so thin and made of the same plastic that it basically has no chance.

Hey all!

Just now getting around to posting on some forums. Normally I don't have time to socialize on forums. Really enjoying the updates on new XL parts.

I work at HobbyTownUSA in Missoula, MT...if you happen to come though stop by and say hi!

I also have recently started a new YouTube channel to share my RC adventures and action.
RCBound is the channel name and here's the link:

If you have some time I'd appreciate some views/likes/shares!
I'm jumping my house with the XL once I reach 100 subs! Giving away a custom painted RC body of choice at 500 subs!

Wow 486 oz/in!!! Maybe I didn't get enough servo?? Mine is 333 oz/in at 6v. Guess I'm going to find out! I'm thinking if I don't do the bellcrank and have metal links that I'm probably going to break the factory rack pretty quickly.

I think you'll be OK, since getting a solid steering setup will help tremendously over the stock plastic no matter what. In the case of turning these big tires, I found that Hitec to be the best without going into the $200 range for just a servo.

Thanks. Yeah I looked up the spec on the factory servo and it's half the torque of the one I got and I'm under $100. I think I'll be ok as well. I'm going to follow your lead and go with just the servo and steering rack to start. I'll probably order the hot racing rack once I can find that in stock.

I have the HR upgrade and while it's nice i am not impressed. I'd try the DHawk one if it were me. Plus they have color options.

I used the GPM steering rack and that worked perfectly but the two aluminium poles that come with it are too long, had to shave them down a bit.

After discovering part of my drive shaft to the back was bent I installed the HR drive shaft. Works nicely, no more wobble. Installed the Dhawk spacer at the same time but I don't feel it was needed after I saw no wear on the existing spacer. The paint on the HR diff had come off the housing though where it had periodically rubbed on the pinion. No actual wear on either of them

Did it require any modification to fit/work? I'm not sure I'm comfortable with shaving the bulkhead for the dhawk. What didn't you like about it?

Zero modifications needed.

The piece is rock solid except I didn't like the part in the pictures circled in Red. This created a ton of slop. There is almost 3mm of deflection at these points. The posts are not machined correctly and to be honest they are too small. The brass bushings are too small by almost .05mm again creating too much slop. This is an area that should be the beefiest as this is the first connection point to the steering. These areas are just a poorly machined part. There was less slop in this area with the stock parts but they would wear out rather quickly. For $50 i thought it was a waste of $$ an not to mention it took almost 2 weeks to get. These 2 things alone will make me look at other companies for upgrades. I ordered the DHawk bulkhead (In Orange of course) and motor mount even though HR has a Motor Mount. When i do the Batwing upgrade, DHawk will get my $$.

Installed some Angel Eyes. Bright little buggers. With them being so close together they look like one straight on. May move them or not.
