Thumbs up Robinson Racing Gen 3 slipper for 1/10 Yeti works.

I don't know how many of you have inspected your slipper discs and aluminum pads but they gall up really bad and don't allow for much slip at all if any. I "THINK" this is adding to a lot of the front diff deaths. I saw the 1/10 Yeti robinson Gen 3 kit and it looked real beefy. The 1/10 Yeti and the Yeti XL have the same output shaft diameter. It is the same set up.... I have had Robinson Racing stuff in the past and now on my big block Maxx so I ordered it up. I purchased part # 1564. You will have to remove the trans and open up the output shaft hole in the plastic front trans case a little so the Robinson steel support hub clears. Now this spur is 64 tooth so you will need a smaller pinion. Stock is 68/15 which is 4.53:1 ratio. So I used a 14 tooth pinion...Thats a 64/14 which is a 4.57:1ratio. Pretty much the same..Just a touch lower gearing than stock. I also ordered a 13 tooth pinion which will be a 4.92:1 ratio. That's a bit lower than stock so we will see. I can't test it because of the three million feet of snow here in RI right now but it all fits and should work great. Here it is installed.

any pics of the mod you had to do to the shaft ?

my slipper is pretty much locked... if i loosen it a bit it slips. the disks definitively look weird after 10-15 packs.

I didn't have to mod the shaft... You just have to open up the hole in the trans case that the output shaft exits. That's so the support hub clears. I just used a body reamer to do it. You can use a drill bit also but you'll need a metric bit.

Ill take it apart later and take pics. It's very simple and fits very good. Like I said ...the Axial system is a good idea with the double disc set up but aluminum galls up very fast...minutes....and then you have no slipper. The Robinson set up is better and the spur is lighter and it has a large sealed bearing in it instead of a plastic bushing.

I had to order a replacement spur gear and the new one actually came with better sealed bearing than just the plastic bushing. My only concern is how close the 68t spur is to the output shaft I can see the 64t doesn't come near as close.

You could still run the stock pinion right? Just have more wheel speed than torque.

ordered this with robinson gears ... I went a bit off the path with the 56 tooth slipper and bought 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 spurs in the super hard blackened they make...hoping with the tekin 1700kv I can find that sweet spot

Thats not a good combo for the Yeti XL chewie. Smaller spur gear will kill torque. And larger pinions will kill torque. Your gear choices are more for a speed run build??

thx for the reply...idk what the gear ratio should be .... the 1700kv is spinning slower than the stock so gearing it up seemed right...starting with the 20/56 and go from there was the plan...its all unknown for now...unless its been done?

looking back the 64/19 probably would be much better...or I can run 56/15 or 56/16 and be same as 64/19

Just for laughs I put a 68/18 running 6s on my XL to see the top speed. It's uncontrollable at those speeds. I then used a 68/13 and dialed the ESC down. 90% punch control..and lower motor timing. Much better....easier to control and it still hit 40mph on grass. Too fast is just that with this RC..too dang fast and it's not fun. I had a modified Losi Ten that did over 50mph on grass but it handled really good. And it was a nitro so the power band is just way different.

Hey Ford what kv motor do you have ...mine is 1700kv stock is 2200kv

if my motor spins 1700 rpm per volt on 5s 18.5v would be 31450 total
stock is 2200 at 6s 22.2v is 48840 by using the much lower kv motor the rpm will be much lower....with stock gearing it would be slow and overheat...need to work the motor by gearing up ... idk what Ill end up with YETI still buying stuff...

I have the stock Castle 2200v motor on 6s. I always thought lower KV motors are for higher voltage applications for high speed RC cars? Like a Traxxas XO-1. I see those cars with 1700ish KV motors and 10s/12s systems. But they are screaming top end machines.
