Default 1/5 servo on Yeti XL?

I know the mounting position is made for a 1/10 servo. But with these tires being almost the size of a 1/5 scale, has anybody modified the yeti xl to accommodate a 1/5 scale servo? If so post a link or pic of your mod!

That would be interesting to see ,but I think way overkill. There are plenty of high powered 1/10 & 1/8 scale servos out there that exceed the 400-600oz/in that will drop right in. The amount of modding you'd have to do to fit that big of a servo would out weigh any performance gains. The 1/5 scale steering servos are much bigger than their 1/8 scale counterparts.

I have a 1/5 scale and just figured with the size of the tires a larger gear set would benefit the situation, this is the thing keeping me away from the xl, my 1/8 truggy uses a 1/10 servo and I wish that was larger. Yes you are correct though the sheer size of the 1/5 servo would be difficult to work in

Just in case you've never seen a size comparison...stock HPI steering servo vs. stock Yeti XL steering servo...

Yeah I have, I run a baja 5sc, too bad they didn't figure in for a 1/5 servo though

Sorry, didn't see this post. Wasn't sure if you knew the size difference. I run a Hitec HS-7980TH and its a beast!

I agree. I love my Bajas and my 5ive but, I was looking for something different. Something quieter and as fun to drive as my 1/5 scales. I didn't want to convert any of my Bajas because of the short run times and was hoping the YXL would fill my void. With a bit of upgrading though, couldn't be happier! My YXL is a blast to drive and I still get a solid 30 minutes on 6s!

That is exactly why I was looking at the xl. Love my baja but it is loud and such an event to take it anywhere worth driving it. Sounds like just some investments in electronics and I could have something comparable in size to run around without gas and larger tools.

Oh yeah! Couldn't agree with you more. It has to be a "planned event" to take the large scales out. The only draw back to the Yeti XL at the moment is the lack of aftermarket support. But, it's still new and I'm sure there is much to come!

A 1/5 servo is really not needed. An all aluminum steering rack and links are needed. I have a 444oz/in servo and it turns RC4WD mud slingers just fine. Those tires on f-11s are too heavy for the truck itself in my opinion. The Yeti XL is not any bigger than a Savage XL 5.9. I have both. With the body off YXL they look pretty much the same size.

yea the 1/5 thing will pretty much not work without a massive amount of modding and that might not really work out for the truck.. i have a solar 772 with a bec and it moves the tires just fine so it could be a good thing to just look into a stronger then rtr servo.

With the power of the high voltage 1/10 scale servos exceeding 500 oz-in, 1/5 scale dont even need a 1/5 scale servo. Wasted effort tryting to get one in there.

i was looking into this servo
but noticed its a bit bigger than my 7955 and even the 7955 needs to be squeezed in a little.
were you able to just drop the 7980 right in or need to brg out the dremel?

No, I definitely had to modify the space to accommodate the longer length but, I had this as a spare for one of my Baja's and figured I'd try to make it work. I ended up swapping it back out for a 7954sh afterward because I had a bit of a binding issue because of the height. I'm sure I could've made it work but having another to just drop in seemed smarter.

Well it just seems that with tires the size of a Baja5 that engineering the truck with a larger servo would have been a better idea, I realize that they make smaller high torque servos but when it comes to the larger gears I would think you would be less prone to broken servos

From the wholly cow beating in your video that was a cheapo servo horn. Looked thin and non clamping. Huge for that vid. Can't believe it took all that.

As we all know size does matter but I can't find a 1/6 or 1/7 scale servo. Do you have any link I can look at for specs?
