Question New YXL kit- Must Have Upgrades

Hey All,

Been ghosting this forum for awhile. Just ordered a YXL kit. Have built a couple of Tamiya ReRe's & a Losi 22SCT so Ive got a little experience. Will be starting from scratch with the Yeti. No electronics for it yet.

From researching this forum, ive learned that the wheels are soft & strip easily, the steering bits are flimsy, & the plastic in general aint the greatest.

Im looking to plan ahead & buy the upgrades that are the most needed AND/ OR hardest to get to first.

-MT4 G3 wheels are at the top of my list & I will install those on the stock tires.
-I also plan to put an aluminum steering rack & servo arm in as well.

Is there anything else that I should just replace right away? I've read that some parts are a Major PITA to instal (front bulkhead) or get to.

I dont want to turn this into a metal monster, and would rather keep the upgrades to functional bits that really need tha love.

Thanks!

I just bought the Robinson Racing slipper. The one that comes with it is terrible. If it slips much at all the aluminium pads scar up and if it loosens (like mine did) the slipper will over heat and the center plastic will melt and warp.

Gorilla tape the fawk out of the tires. I'm still balooning the harder compound kit tires with super firm CI foams.
DO NOT use the included bearings.

Aluminum parts that I feel are needed:
Bulk head
Shock tower
Every single steering part
Dhawk spacers

HR front bulkhead plate. You will not regret it if you try to install the stock plastic one first.

Forgot to add the diff fluid.

I'm running 300k front and rear and it feels good until it gets warm. Could easily have 500k in both diffs. This is setup for bashing by the way. I'd think you would want thicker if you plan on playing in the rocks.

I'm running 4s with a Tekin rx8/truggy 2000kv...

Upgraded the steering link, 400oz servo, BEC, and so far, nothing has let loose. Tons of high traction wheelies in the street, diffs are holding solid. I am about to install the mamba monster system,we shall see of that changes anything.

Why would you go to the Mamba Monster combo over just a Tekin 1350kV? To run 6S?

Thanks for all the great info guys! What are these Dhawk spacers that you speak of. Tried doing a search and came up empty.

Btw, this Yeti will be for 4S type bashing. No real interest in crawling.

Any advice for preventing balooning?

Tape the inside of the tire. Not the sidewall but the actual tread area.

Spacers found here

Gorilla tape works best in my opinion and won't need multiple layers. There's plenty of vids on YouTube but heres the first one that popped up.

What size spur do you get? Neither matches stock. Sorry for the brief hijack. Thanks

You won't need c1 foams and tire tape on 4s in my opinion. I'm hitting 40mph and my tires only balloon slightly. I only notice on the road.
The Dhawk spacers are on eBay and they replace the stock plastic ones on the diff pinion shaft.

I'll be taping my Falkens once I figure out a way to safely unmount them. The CI foams are getting softer and softer every time I use them.

64T with 14T pinion, about as close as I could get. There is a thread on here about it, someone already did the install, I just followed what they did.

Thumbs up Re: New YXL kit- Must Have Upgrades

Just Ordered:
Dhawk...
-Steering rack
-Bulkhead
-Spacers
-Shock Caps

and already got a shipping notice

Will be getting the HR front bulkhead plate as well.

Looking at bearings. What is the difference between Fast Eddie regular & 2-speed bearing kits? Will a single kit be all I need for the entire vehicle?

Also, can someone please measure the outside diameter of the Falken tires in mm? I'm trying to match fronts/rears but put wider meats on the back for fun, but can't find specs on the Falkens.

Thanks!

P.s. Thanks for the taping info, will be doing mine up.
