My yeti XL build

I am not very good at this but want to try it anyways. I am going to "document" my yeti upgrades. I've got an idea of what I want to do. Will not spoil it for you. But I hope it looks good. Just a peek at what I want to do..... Going to re-anodize my Losi XXL rear shocks.

I will post some good pics of the yeti as it sits right now. Will do that today when the sun comes out.

I just got this so I don't have a manual or any know-how. I will be running around in the dark, as they say... I'm starting with easy mods.

I've got a charger on the way. I haven't decided on batteries yet but I have some I'm eyeballing. I'm starting off with just 4s. Maybe go to 6s once I get her going and can afford some more upgrades that may be needed soon after. Parts like beefier Diffs. etc etc... I feel better about putting more aluminum on the ride if I'm running 6s.. Still not sure I want to put that much metal on it. I know that sometimes the breakage still happens with aluminium. Just in another area of the car.

Anyways. I'll post pics later today of what I have on the ride as of now. :flipoff:

i bought 2s 5000mah batteries and would suggest above 50 on the "C" rating. even with the 2s batteries it screams. gonna need the rear swaybar to keep the torque wheelies down..

Cool.. I'm eyeballing some zippy 6000 50c batteries.

Price point is like 30 bucks.

I might have to put a sway bar on the list. May have to get it anodized another color! I'm waiting to hear back from my anodize friend. I think he still does it, I hope he does.. Fingers crossed that he has the shade of color I want. In my head the yeti will look epic if I get it all matching.. But well see..

I don't know man. I may like the torque wheelies... Idk, maybe not... Well see.. Thanks for the info. "thumbsup"

Got some pics to upload tonight.

As you can see, I'm running the Losi XXL shocks in rear. They're pretty, big, and dampen really nice. But, I'm looking to change the color.

It's really the only noticeable thing on the truck right now besides the beadlocks/ tire setup... Here is a list of upgrades, as I know it.
  • Real beadlocks on BFGoodrich Krawler tires
  • Losi XXL big bore shocks in rear
  • All aluminum steering
  • Savox steering servo with aluminum servo arm
  • Blacked out body and cage using rhino and acrylic paint
  • Adjustable steel turnbuckles and camber links
  • Front aluminum upper brace (may be a factory part)

Here's another good pic of the car's current state.

My charger came. I like it. Haven't dug into it yet, but I like the looks. And its smaller than I thought, which is good.

I hope it charges pretty fast. Bought it from a guy that has a Yeti XL also so I know it will work.

I have 2 of those and they work good. I bought a quad charger about a year ago. 4 3s 5000mah ready to go in 30 min. You might look into one with the YXL using 2 at a time. Still use the old traxxas chargers when my daughter and I go out so we don't waste a ton of time waiting on batteries to charge.

Hitec 4 place? I'm looking at the 50 watt hitec.

Re: My yeti XL build

The Hitec X4 is a good investment. Don't let the sticker shock scare you. Order it from Towerhobbies, use a coupon discount and easy pay it. It'll break the cost in 3 and you'll be happy you made the investment in the long run. I have one along with 2 other single chargers so best case I can charge 6 batteries at once. I hate waiting for batteries to charge!

New Traxxas Dual Charging Adapter for 3S LiPo Batteries EZ Peak Plus Charger 291 | eBay

So I have two batteries now. A no-name yellow battery and a Turnigy Nano- tech 5.3. Just bought another turnigy 5.3 so I'll be set to start out. What should I do with my wierd yellow battery? I want to match batteries when I run.

Yes they will balance but the charger is not able to tell the difference between the 2 batteries since they are connected in parallel. The danger is that if you have a problem with one of the cells the charger cannot detect this and you can end up starting the whole thing on fire. I fly helis and have a Power Lab 6 1000W set-up to charge my 6S 1250MAh batteries, I can charge 6 at a time at 5C if I want to. I use it with a 6 battery parallel board with separately fused main battery connections and self-resetting fuses with trip indication on the balance circuits, even with this I have heard stories of batteries starting on fire.

Just be careful with parallel charging and never leave it unattended, also it's a good idea to get one of those fire resistant charging pouches, don't know that I'd be doing it on top of a magazine on my coffee table.

Also only parallel charge matching batteries and make sure they are fairly close in charge level before you start, I always connect the balance cables first and let the charge levels of the batteries equalize for a few minutes before I connect the main leads and start the charger. It is a good idea to balance charge the batteries individually every once in a while to make sure all is OK.

If you have one of those quad chargers as mentioned above, none of this applies as the charger has separate channels which charge and balance the batteries individually anyways. The reason I didn't go with one of those is that with 6S batteries and the 50W per channel limit of most quad chargers you can only charge a 1250maH battery maximum about 1.5C before you run into the max power rating of the charger.

What about small black tie wraps? I have some that are about 4" long and 1/8" wide, I think that would look kind of cool.

Yes zip ties, home depot carries some really good ones in the electrical section if you have one close by.

Used some black zip ties... was going to go with a color that I'm also using on the inside of the truck but thought black was okay. Pics soon.

I did the windows also today... Remarkably done very quick..I'm pretty good at this.. Got them to match on both sides. Used a dremel and a cutting wheel to cut the screen out. Here's a picture of what it looks like now, I really like the screen on the windows... its also on the grille and the rear sides..

I'm waiting on parts. When they come I'll be putting together a colored theme I think.
