Dewalt powered XL
 

Since I couldn't afford a sensored brushless system I went this route instead. I wanted to slow it down for going out through wood's here in Alaska. I have the 14.4v dewalt motor from Kershaw designs I made my own motor mount. I started with the stock gearing but the motor got hot after a 16min run you couldn't even touch it but the ESC was cold I thought it was overgeared but it ended up being undergeared. That's when found the traxxas summit's tranny ratio and xls tranny ratio are so close together, so I set it up like a summit tranny with a dewalt motor 17p x 68s . I did another 16min test run and you could hold your hand on the motor now, so with some cooling fans there shouldn't be any heat issues. Here's some pic's.

lol I was thinking about this for my fully independent high clearance 4 wheel steer build !! I'm so glad you did it !!! THANKS kuz I'm in the same boat $ ive dropped 700$ in aftermarket parts...I love the body ... nice job Jeremy

any videos ? Is that a glitch buster wired in to your esc? are you running 4s? any pictures of the motor plate? god I'm annoying lol :shock: thanks for the post !!

hey Red you seem like the battery guru around here do you think you could point me in the right "safe" direction for hooking up 2s or 3s to my esc.... Thanks "thumbsup"

Redsawacs my truck is 15.4 pounds and the motor move's it really good and the torque is just like everyone says it is, I tried to hold on to the motor in my hand and it twist's right out when you gas it. I'm happy with the setup.

BarHaborBasher sorry no video yet. No they are not glitch buster's ,they are capacitors and they are factory. I'm running 4s and I don't any pic's of the motor mount, it's a stock one drilled to fit the motor.

Use the stock configuration for hooking up 2 batteries.

A. Positive side of ESC to positive side of battery 1.
B. Negative side of battery 1 to positive side of battery 2.
C. Negative side of battery 2 to negative side of ESC

The trick is, you have to use the EXACT same MAH on both batteries!!!!

I just ordered a new double cooling fan setup from Kershaw designs and a castle bec for my new steering servo"thumbsup". Hope this helps with the cooling and the bec helps with the steering stall.

I have the Kershaw fans on a Castle 2028...they are ...ahh. :???: I like the mount though.

Going to replace the fans with some 30mm WTF high speed fans.

I have been waiting for the HR diff locker's to come back in stock on eBay and they were tonight, so I ordered front and rear "thumbsup". I was going to jb weld the diffs but for the price it's worth a try.
