Just FYI to those ordering kits these gears came in my kit. I might have missed that they always did but I never saw that anywhere. I asked about shimming when I built my kit, no wonder I couldn't fit shims on.

So heads up if you order a new kit you'll need to knock the ridge off before assembly.

Wouldn't it be best to wait until DHAWK releases the updated bulkhead since axial is only selling/providing the bevel cut gears? Unless you need one to get the rig running of course

I'm going to see if I can find the HD Gears somewhere here locally since they have been sold out online. Then I can mod them and get my YXL back on the trails.

Anybody know of a place online that have the HD bevel gears in stock?
They seem to be back ordered everywhere.

The problem with the bevel gears.

There is no adjustment. Both gears must I repeat must mesh in the middle of the teeth.
That means moving pinion in and out. Can't do easily.

Main problem. Can't move ring gear over easy.
My advice is put a 4mm wide bearing on ring gear side and then shim other side.
Stock bearing is 10x16x5mm.
Avidrc has 10x16x4mm bearing. They also have shims in .5mm thickness. It probably won't be perfect but closer.
Other than that the housing needs to be machined to allow for shimming.
Axial would have had to know this.
Sold them anyway.

Try reducing the spacer like Harley cost me money within two runs... Oho so you figured out the problem and you didn't have to make a video, constant emails or beat your XL 50+6s runs punishing runs and breaking hundreds of dollars of parts making sure it was fixed WITH PROOF

From your video when you took apart the rear end after your mod it looked like the wear marks on the ring gear and pinion were pretty good and didn't need aot of further adjustment?

look at my diff retainers after 2 runs with Harleys mod ... Never got a sorry or replacement of BOCA greens...my NEW vanquish looked like this after the 2nd day.. my vanquish spacer was sanded down for the Harley mod.. that's too small for anything now...made a video for HIM to help his (US) customers.. Never a word till he basically called me a idiot with his response on his build thread...

And I thought he was a good guy... but even good guys protect their livelihood so for that I understand the silence.. I guess its up to (US) now..

If it wasn't for BHB I or us wouldn't even know what to do.
Much kudos to him. For your determination to fix those engineering screw ups.
With out BHB and his mod they would be all sitting waiting till axial figured something out.
Meaning everybody would be looking at there scretty like I am.
Then you can't even hardly find parts if you did want to fix it.

Ran it today. Your mod only. Ran good.
Front diff turns nice.
I hope this last a while. Till I get the back ordered parts at least.
Charging batts now. Going to the dirt track and run it some more.

Hey THANKS STEVE !! That's what I wanted this thread about !!!

Trying a simple mod that saves the XL from abandonment !!


Before the mod the XL was on its way out but I consciously couldn't bring myself to rip off the poor bastard down the line..

After the mod my passion for the XL flourished..

Axial on the other hand needs to step up to the plate and show loyalty to (ITS) owners.. I'm still bothered about the HD gear release in the RTR after two months of discussions with Axial over the inherent issues with the HD gears.. ...

THE WORST PART IS THAT I'M THE ONLY ONE TRYING TO SPREAD IT TO THE OWNERS.... NOT ONE PERSON THAT HAS A OUTREACH WITH THE COMMUNITY WILL EVEN TALK ABOUT IT...
