I was just reading a thread about using bushings on AR60s and that got me thinking about bushings in the YXL.

The bearings at the pinion are 15x21x4mm though.

I have been thinking bushings for a while but have had no luck finding them in 15x21x4mm. I will contact locked up RC to see if they can provide the Black Ice bushings in our sizes. Might solve a lot of problems for cheap.

No more Black Ice bushings due to no more material to make them. We can get the mini loco bushings though. I'm going to get some.

I am no expert in this area but would a self lubricating sleeve bearing work in place of bearings/bushings you could probably have one made up to the desired dimensions, and instead of two bearings / bushings just one long sleeve bushing / bearing ?

The same thought crossed my mind as well ... For the long haul it might be a valuable consideration ! I my self have no real world experiences with PTFE materials.. I'm betting the boot really makes a HUGE difference with the longevity of the pinion bearings !!

Well here we are again 4 day weekend and knee deep in rain. I don't think I will ever get to have fun again. It will be months before we dry out and there is more expected next week.

That has to be one of the worse things to ever happen to someone. Not being able to go HOME, and lose everything. Really sad.

Hey Steve did you get a chance to run the XL yet with the plastic cap? Looking forward to your findings

Got 1 pack in last weekend. We have had rain and flooding for last 2 months so not much good weather here. The cover held up on the one 6S run. Hoping to get out this weekend and get some good testing in. Will post pics soon as I do.

I deal with PTFE everyday in bio-pharm engineering. The largest downfall to teflon is that when it used as a bearing, friction induced heat is a show stopper. The thermal expansion needs to be accounted for in bearing and bearing surface. The problem becomes, because of the over and under cuts, until the parts reach operating temp, things are sloppy. I cannot imagine the gears will last all that long. The longest lasting harsh environment bearings I have found are timken sealed ceramic with stainless races. I will check sizing to see if they come small enough.

This is the issue that we are facing with the outer housing bearing .. The housing scoops dirt into the pinion cement mixer..
This is after on 4s pit run..

This is why I DON'T use grease.. Look how clean and dry it is ..
adding grease turns the dirt into a bearing killing compound..
I also think rock binding is causing the WB failures..

And knowing that my outer bearing is inevitable to failure I run the Third bearing as well for backup

YES THE XL NEEDS A BOOT
