Default Hot Racing Front Diff Housing

Has anyone installed the housing and noticed when you install the three small screws to keep the bearings from moving forward, it actually binds the bearing/front drive shaft?

Everything slides in well by hand. I will check it tomorrow with some calipers. Hopefully the HD gears last longer than the stock!

Did you do the BHB mod and remove the step from the back side of the pinion teeth?

BHB is a genius... I am not sure why axial is even selling that gear. Before cutting it down, I tried putting it together and the shaft was bound so tight it would not turn...

So you still have a binding issue after the mod?

What about trying to machine or sand the bearing spacer smaller? I mean thinner.

No. I undercut the gear and then shimmed it back out. In reality, the gears should be the same width. Seems to be rolling free. Hopefully get it back together tomorrow if I can get my carbon plate machined to connect the bulkhead to the housing.

I use the Dhawk bulkhead with the new HD gears. No shims, no mods, just the Dhawk spacer between the bearings. I've put about 15 6s and 5 4s runs on it since install. No issues I can see or hear. I may pull it apart tonight for a closer inspection.

Got most of it back together today. Front diff is spinning nicely. Spent most of the day bagging carbon to make one little plate. Should be interesting to see how long it stays together.

No, there was no binding after the BHB mod. The binding occurred with the gears right out of the package. And I thought keeping a small fleet of phantoms in the air was costly....!

I had a bit of binding after installing the HD gears. I wouldn't really say it was binding. They just felt kind of stiff and chunky. I put a few packs through and drove like a total puss. I was driving only to break in the gears. Since then I have been driving as normal without issues.

Now, it be without issues simply because I am seeing no evil. I haven't taken the front end off and looked at the gears since installing them. Maybe that's why the front end is so hard to get off? If I have time on Sunday I may be able to check them. If they're chewed to hell and back I'll order a new set and have them sent directly to BHB.
