Default Best wheel, tire and foam combos

I'm new to the yxl but quickly learned that the stock tires/foams suck. Can you guys show some pictures of your set ups along with links to the site you purchased them from?

Thanks

Which tires did you end up with on your XL?

Both of our XL kits came with R35 Falken Tires. We never used the stock foams and installed Crawler Innovations Deuce's Wild CWR-3009 Foam Pair for 3.8" 7.50-7.25" Tall Tires. The foams stiffen up the tires immensely and aid in traction. IMO foams are the lowest cost upgrade that yield the most noticeable difference. My son Gavin did end up siping his set of Falkens to see what would happen and it softened up the tire and increased traction.

Thanks, I don't have it in front of me at the moment so I'm not sure which tires I have. When searching for rims what size hex do I need?

I use the BFG krawlers CI foams and Pro Line Wheels. What ever way you go CI foams are a MUST.

As soon as the 3.8's are available with this tire, I'm going to get a set (LINK to 2.8's)

Like Pro Mod Steve said, the CI foams are the way to go

As far as tires/wheels, good luck finding a worthy bead lock wheel that isn't going to add too much rotational weight to the already sub standard drivetrain. The same could be said for tires as well but (for me) the trade off was to stay with a lighter wheel and go with my (obviously) favorable performance in the Pitbull Rock Beasts. Until I see better options in bead lock wheels, I'm good with the performance I've gotten out of my current set up on 6s.

Unfortunately, the aftermarket support on this platform is still lagging tremendously. There's more focus on 1/10 scale rigs than this beast. In some ways, I sometimes get the feeling that manufacturers are scared to put anything out for this rig for fear that they're opening up a can of worms with warranties. Who knows though. Its pretty obvious though with the new Axial releases that every manufacturer has prioritized those new platforms and thus "forgotten" about this one. It's sad to see how little support we've seen for something that's been out for a couple of years now. So much so that I've since shelved mine and went back to my 1/5 scale roots.

End rant.

Here's how the RB's look:

has anyone tried a smaller wheel/tire diameter? I think it would look more scale with smaller wheels

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-LJdy_Jymo - Yeti XL with Pro-Line Badlands.

They look a bit too small. The cage on the YXL is so big. Maybe something just a bit larger and still smaller than the WPs?

I still like the look of the stock BFG and WPs. I'm not a fan of wide tires on this rig (trenchers), but I'm interested in something shorter. With BHB HC mod it could look pretty cool.

EDIT: Foams.... CI or death!
