I'm not quite sure I fully understand what's going on however. Most search results talk about motor timing, and the castle link program doesn't show anything that seems to relate to this problem. Can you point me in the right direction?

Washers to fix the gap, brilliant. Why didn't I think of that... I did tape the gap in an attempt to keep dirt out, but your idea is better.
I don't have a MMX but the menu settings in castle software should be the same. If you can take a snap shot of each screen so we can see what you have going on. From my experience the default settings from Castle are 99% spot on and very conservative which is a good thing. I have never messed with timing because I don't understand it in electric motors. Advancing or retarding timing in a gas motor can make or loose power/TQ, create heat, throw rods, stick valves etc. Again, I do t know so I go with what the experts say/program and have never said This sucks I want more. I change Lipo settings, brake, punch, throttle and brake curves with an occasional motor reverse but that's it. For me, it just works and never leaves me wanting to tweak it.

I expected the same. The MMX is a combo package with motor, and I assumed the default settings would reflect that. Maybe a legacy thing.

Turns out the motor and gearing information window can only be triggered from the datalog window. Never considered looking there for settings. It did solve the mystery, as it was set for 2 poles and 1100kv. Doubling the data showed the motor was running at 55k rpm, which is exactly as expected.

Problem solved, thanks guys!

Fixed everything, went out for a run, and it was amazing. Freezing, but dry, and that's the important part. Photo and video:

The run lasted for about 15 minutes. I lost 4 wheel drive, the back wheels weren't spinning anymore. From the outside I didn't see anything strange, which means that there must be something wrong in the transmission. No racketing noise, so my guess is one cog somehow disconnected.

Time to open it up again

this has happened to me 4 times. Simple fix, this screw breaking is actually cheap insurance. Buy a pack, there are like 8 in the package.

Glad to hear it's common issue and easy to fix. Don't have any spares unfortunately, and it'll take two weeks for anything to ship :(

That's indeed the one. Maybe there are other manufacturers offering the same ones, haven't checked yet, but if I need to order these from Axial it needs to get shipped from the US, and that takes time.

- Edit: Found a local dealer, looks like they have it in stock. Looks like Axial is slowly catching on here.

I'm in the same vote being in Australia, axial is popular here but the yeti XL is not and we have to buy all our parts from US.
