Default Finished!

Thanks to everyone who helped me with my first kit glitches!
It's finally finished and I took it out for a first bash today, it was flawless
It doesn't compare to tphjill's and others but I'm very happy with it and it's a welcome addition to the family.

came out nice man. You still have to back that paint with another color. Light if you want maximum brightness, dark if you want to add some sinister to it.

Awesome job. FWIW watch those plastic shock caps. I broke mine early after my build. Went to DHAWK aluminum and they are flawless.

Those are next on the to do list.
Are reservoir caps worth getting?

I just use the standard cap. I use a bladder in cap rather than the supplied o-ring. Team Associated #89351

I'm thinking about getting HR shock caps , any opinions out there regarding "piggyback reservoir " type vs. "bleeder" ?

Looks clean. I really like the wheel/tire combo.

What wheels are they?

No punch control. High C batteries or tight mesh can lead to this. That's why I had a mod one conversion made but if I don't see any interest I'll be the only one running them.

Batteries are 25 C, was only about five minutes into rock crawling with a couple of 75% throttle pulls on adjacent asphalt walkway. Probably was the mesh. Pinion came loose on my last run, thought I had a good mesh but apparently not. :(
It cursed me on that second punch.

My stock Tactic servo has died and gone to servo heaven
I'm considering getting Hitec HS-7950TH HV Ultra-Torque Titanium Corless Servo. I realize there are a million opinions on servos (I've checked the threads)
Promodeler 420 is out of stock, Holmes seems a good option. Appreciate any thoughts.

My stock tactic servo died too, Cheez. I just ordered a Savox 1270TG, which should be here in the next few days. I did a TON of reading through the forums, and you're right, everyone seems to have a different opinion. I made my selection after a few PM's with a couple members and they've both run this particular one over a year with no problems. I bought a new gear set for the stock tactic for $10 the other day and just installed it tonight. It functions great, and my plan is to just keep it for a backup. The gear that shredded in mine, (and likely yours), is a single plastic gear. The new gear set still contains the plastic one, but for a backup, I figured why not.

Thanks, that looks like a very good option.
I'm not sure what "Special design for high voltage native 2s LiPo operation." In the tech description means. Will it be fine with 2x3s?
Where did you buy the gear set?

2S lipo operation has nothing to do with 2x3S. 2x3S is what you are running the truck on (and it is what it is) and 2S lipo operation is the voltage on which your servo is running on (and you can choose it from the ESC/BEC setup).

So that's the part that gets a little tricky. It'll depend on your stock ESC BEC output. If you have the Yeti XL RTR, your stock BEC output is 5V. Which means if you run that Savox servo I bought, you're likely going to experience "brown outs" or shuttering because it'll draw more power than your stock ESC can handle. What you'll need to do, is install an external BEC (I bought the 10A one from Castle Creations) and do a little bit of soldering to get it hooked up. Then, you can program the new BEC to whatever voltage output you'd like (up to the servos max recommendation). There are a lot of videos you can watch that are helpful with the installation of everything.

This video I found to be the most helpful:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-oIAPIlDjc

Things I needed to do this project:
Castle Creations Castle Link
Holmes Hobbies RX bypass
Castle Creations 10A BEC
Savox 1270TG Servo

Kind of disappointing that I needed to do this to what I was really hoping to be a bullet proof truck, but at the same time it was a fun little project. Good luck!

**Edit: I forgot to answer your question about the tactic gear set. I ordered it off amazon.

Thanks for the info, I decided to get the Hitec HS-7950TH HV Ultra-Torque Titanium Corless Servo.
I am using the stock Vanguard AE-4 ESC, I'm totally green when it comes to electronics, am I going to have issues to deal with? Is a BEC a "must have "?
