I just recently bought a used yeti xl rtr with some upgrades. I have never used a axial rc yet but the range is only about 100 ft then it starts cutting out. It has the ax-3 transmitter, not sure on receiver figure its the rtr original. I have a traxxas slash 4x4 that will go feels like forever and will never cut out on me. Just wondering if anyone has had similar issues and what would be the fix?

Is the antenna cut or folded at all? That would knock your range down quite a lot.

I'll have to check that out and try it. Been waiting for my new aluminum servo horn. Plastic one stripped out the splines.

Got a Flysky GR3E receiver to replace the ax-3 receiver. Have to get it out and test it sometime. Also got a Savox SC-1256TG servo to replace the original one that failed.

Just an add on if your RTR came with the original AE-4 ESC and 2200 kv motor you will need to add a BEC on your setup specially now that your upgrading to Savox servo a glitch buster will not suffice. And this is why the AE-4 is the same as the castle sidewinder 8th with a 90 amp max rating re branded for Axial, the motor is the same as the old castle 1515 2200 kv with 120 amp rating. The RTR ESC doesn't have enough juice to power the motor and savox servos are notoriously power hungry it won't matter what transmitter/receiver you use you won't have just range issues but brownouts as well. In my RTR experience, I had range issues myself and like everyone else I thought it was the remote, I even bought a hitec remote but still had the same range issue. That is until some guys on the track saw my ESC/motor combo and suggested I install a BEC and the problem went away. Now I use the old ax-3 transmitter on the RTR and its just running fine and also no issues after installing a better servo when the original servo finally failed. Hope this helps keep bashing, stay safe and remember have fun doing it. |
