Default Sensored or Sensorless? For trails, mild crawling and mixed surface

Ok trying to work out a ESC/motor setup for the XL.

looking for 4-6 capability. and no more than $200-250.

Trying to decide between sensored or sensorless. Reading up seems to get mixed answers on how recommended sensored is. Sensored seems like a really good idea but does come with a price increase.

I'm sure I'll use it on mixed surfaces and probably a small bit of crawling is on trials.

Since I'm kinda wanting the 6s ludicrous speed I may install a 2 speed trans as well.

One combo I'm looking at is the Hobbywing EZRun Max8 w/ 2200kv combo, but is sensorless.

Any guidance would be great!

As somebody else said here before "I can't wait to get this done so I can break stuff"

I would buy a non-sensored motor if I were on a budget. Otherwise get the sensored setup.

You can get a reliable aensored setup for under $200.
If it's going to get wet don't get sensored because the sensor chip in the motors are not waterproof.

Any suggestions on said sub $200 setup?

Also after looking at how sensored motors come apart I think I could conformal coat it.

If on a budget go with the stock esc and motor off eBay... it's made by Castle Creations. With your budget you're not going to be able to afford a sensored setup. I think you'll find this stock motor cogs a bit at low speed but you could easily fix it with gearing or a 2 speed transmission kit

The castle 2200 sensored is waterproof and is completely amazing here’s a running video of my chained up straight axle with stock pinion/spur https://instagram.com/p/Bd768XxBWe2/

You can get a HobbyKing 1/8 2-6s sensored esc for about $100 then spend the rest on any sensored motor.

I have had great success with the motors from goolrc, HobbyWing and HobbyKing.

I have used the 1:10 version for onroad racing for over 2 years and it was bulletproof.

ESC:

Motor:

Yes there are brand snobs and I'm not saying it's the best setup money can buy but it will be reliable.

Or spend an extra $40 on a HobbyWing xerun ESC with that motor.

Most sensored motors are only 4s

So there is the CC 1/8 water proof combo that's sensored. it's $259 which I could go for.

I believe the 1515 2200kv motor.

Would this be anymore power over stock?

Otherwise I could just find a stock motor and get a decent ESC.
