Ant's Yeti I've Had the Yeti for a while now and there's still a lot I'd like to do to it but I've gotten it to the point where I'm pretty satisfied with it so I figured I'd share. Well, I'm not satisfied with the wheels because I basically can't even drive it with the recent addition of the pro4 HD unless I'm easy on the acceleration because the tires just get ripped right out of the beads (But New Bead locks and Tires are on the way 8)) Option Parts List: NOT UPDATED FOR A WHILE CHECK THREAD FOR UP TO DATE SPECS 6VSVT08001 -Viper Vtx8 TEKTT2520 -Tekin Pro4HD 3000kv SAVSA1258TG -Savox SA-1258tg Lunsford Titanium Servo Steering link KNK stainless screw kit Robinson Xtra hard blackened Pinions (currently running 13t) Crawler Innovations DW Foams DMGSK10003 - DMG rear axle skid GR0085 -GCM Machined Diff Cup (500K Kyosho Fluid) AX31161 -Axial Steel Spur 64T AX31156 -Axial Machined Motor Mount AX30395 -Axial HD Bevel gears stock ratio (front/rear) AX31135 -Axial Universals VPS03224 -Vanquish Lockouts (Orange VPS04722 -Vanquish Axle Shock Link Mounts (Red) VPS07351 -Vanquish Trailing Arm (Silver) VPS07232 -Vanquish Steering Rack (Silver) VPS07230 -Vanquish Double Sheer Steering Rack VPS07200 -Vanquish Titanium Front Link Kit VPS07201 -Vanquish Titanium Rear Uppers VPS05990 -Vanquish Locker VPS01042 -Vanquish 225 SLW HUBS (Front) VPS01041 -Vanquish 725 SLW HUBS (Rear) VPS04302 -Vanquish Axle Housing (Silver) VPS06925 -Vanquish Method 101 2.2 (red) X4R-VU4-S -Ottsix Voodoo U4 (Silver Compound) STA80093FO -STRC HD front bumper Mount (Orange) STA31112GM -STRC Front Skid Plate/Hinge Pin Mount (Gun Metal) STA80106O -STRC Caster Block (Orange) Thats It, Might Be forgetting something, And much more to come First Pic is before the Body got beat on and the rest are pretty lazy. Re: Ant's Yeti Nice Yeti dude. I love the pro4 HD good choice |
Re: Ant's Yeti Need to get together sometime. Planning to build a U4 track in my back yard this spring. In the mean time we have a HUGE slag dump to play around. |
Re: Ant's Yeti A U4 track would be awesome and next time you guys do a get together I'll try to make it out |
Re: Ant's Yeti Added Vp Housing and DMG skid. The skid throws off color scheme a bit but when I put my order in I wasn't really thinking I just tossed that in the cart and didn't even consider that the wraith one is black and is about the same, Oh well I want a silver or raw skid eventually anyway. I wonder if DMG could hook that up. |
Re: Ant's Yeti Looks like there could be a pot of gold at the end of that rainbow, lol. Rig's turning out nice my man. Once you start using & abusing it, things will blend very nicely. Looking forward to the next get together, keep watching TSSO site. "thumbsup" |
Re: Ant's Yeti Thanks man and yeah it won't be long before it blends in with the rest of the rig. I'm not very nice to him but in a good way. I'll see how the finish wears after the first run cause i may just polished down the bottom side and leave the axle side since it will trap moisture and rust |
Re: Ant's Yeti Also the next installment is an exciting one look out lol |
Re: Ant's Yeti Vanquish Methods and Voodoos in Silver Compound. Did one to see how it looked and to lazy to do all those screws 3 more times |
Re: Ant's Yeti Nice looking combo. You're going to love those tires. |

Re: Ant's Yeti Forgot to post up the xtreme shock tower when I got it. Wasn't even close to fitting and needed to be reamed out a good bit but now that it's in I like it. IMO whether you go with aluminum or this one it is a solid upgrade. The front end is noticeably tighter. Before if you'd hit a bump or take a hard turn the wheels would bend in and out cause the camber links just bent the plastic shock tower. I even noticed the wheels like skipping In high traction conditions. Seems to limit the play in steering a little bit also http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...2d922ab16b.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...d2ae1954b5.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Ant's Yeti I've been waiting and hoping vanquish or someone else would release an aluminum gearbox and finally gave in and got gpm cause it was the only one available If your looking for a drop in piece I wouldn't recommend. First since it separates in half the shimming was a bit different took a while to get it right. Especially annoying because it needed mounted to see the final fit so I had to take it in and out 100 times. Second the bat wing piece doesn't fit in. So I had to flatten out the front with a Dremel. And my vanquish steering rack rubbed so I shaved some off the gearbox; installed it and it needed a little more but was to annoyed to take it off again so I just shaved some off the rack. But other than that it looks nice lol. No heavy running yet but at least I won't destroy gears. The pro4 is to much for the plastic one. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...7c049bd50c.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...4ef3015726.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...f276b40bc8.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Ant's Yeti Rigs looking good, that GPM diff also looks like two differnt colors. |
Re: Ant's Yeti I think it's because I had a lamp pointed at one side and the other side was lit from the overhead light so one side looks darker. And the hinge pin retainer I got in is actually gunmetal not silver Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Ant's Yeti Is it just me or is the yeti in dire need of someone to come out with a chassis cover (outerwears where you at?) my ghetto setup isn't enough for me I need something clean. Or one of you guys with 3d printers. Have you ever looked into molding a piece that just mounts on top of the bat wing piece with the existing screw locations and then having it hook into the top bars of the battery tray? Or anything like that. I'm probably gonna look for a waterproof breathable fabric next and cut it to fit like a glove around the chassis tub. Anybody come up with any better ideas yet feel free to post up what you've come up with http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...9e41586a8b.jpg |

Re: Ant's Yeti I'm liking the SLW wheels on my yeti. Looks like the methods are going to the wraith perminately. Not a fan of how wide it needs to be to work. I had to put 600 hubs up front to clear everything so the front currently sits slightly wider than the rear http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...46266a5b4b.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Ant's Yeti I didn't like how the hubs were visible from the front, and the face of these wheels are so open they needed rotors. http://i.imgur.com/F3I70F6l.jpg BEFORE http://i.imgur.com/tiC5GiNl.jpg AFTER http://i.imgur.com/YTCmU1sl.jpg Snatched up some knuckles finally also, Unfortunately they are way to tight on the strc hubs, gonna have to bust out the dremel http://i.imgur.com/ToBMD1wl.jpg |
Re: Ant's Yeti What's this about STRC carriers and VP knuckles not fitting together? I've got those very parts coming in the mail as we speak. |

Re: Ant's Yeti I have to do a little more work on mine. I got them so they were just useable hoping they would wear into themselves. But I took it out for a spin and as soon they get some cold air on them they get locked up Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Ant's Yeti Definitely tight! Got mine fit together yesterday. I'm also pissed about my 1" SLWs hitting steering arms with .350 hubs. I see you've got 600 hubs... I realllly don't want to go that wide.. Did you try .475" hubs? |
Re: Ant's Yeti Quote:
That is why I got the brake rotors. I didn't want it so wide in front but with the 475 It cleared fine but If applied a bit of pressure would touch. I now have the 475 in front with the rotors and it was just enough. Others have said they ran 475 alone just fine but I like the addition of the rotors just to be sure and they look great. Re: Ant's Yeti Good info thanks! I'd be tempted to let the sucker self clearance, but that's a lot of expensive aluminum right there :lmao::shock: You're using stock Axial hexes I assume? I'm about to order hubs and hell I'll try the rotors too, but want to make sure it'll work like it did for you. "thumbsup" .725" hubs out back? |

Re: Ant's Yeti Pretty much what I did. I found that the attachment points on the STRC carriers were tapered and the VP knuckles only started to bind on the last push to line up the holes. Kind of meh on the fit and finish of the STRC parts in general. Too bad VP doesn't make carriers. |
Re: Ant's Yeti If VP or DLUX/UCFAB made carriers, I'd throw money at them so fast, they wouldn't know what hit em. |
Re: Ant's Yeti Snow Finally Melted so I rushed a video even though you can barely see by the end. The footage is pretty noisy because I had to bump up exposure. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/6GSn-ltJYds" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Re: Ant's Yeti Damn fine ride there my friend, and a wealth of good tips and things to watch for and be aware of! kinda going way back her but i gotta say that the gpm front box does indeed look like 2 dif colors/tones in all 3 pictures! crazy that they are not but light and shadow are funny things. Anyway, keep up the good work Bro its been fun to watch |
Re: Ant's Yeti Quote:
Thanks again for tuning in, I should be getting back on the Yeti soon now that the snow is leaving. I've recently just been dumping parts into my Scx10 and wraith. |
Re: Ant's Yeti Of topic I know, but just wondering what your overall feel/opinion is on the wraith vs yeti? I have had an scx10 for years it's still nearly stock but has been a dependable companion on many trail walks and hunting scouting trips. Really don't look at it as a comparison to the yeti really, maybe they just seem like really different animals in my mind. But my dingo goes like 5mph flat out lol, so you can see why I feel that way. Anyway the wraith seems to be a kissin cousin to the yeti, so it makes me wonder. I originally went to the local hobby shop to buy a wraith kit, but they were sold out, but did just get this new spangled and highly touted Yeti RTR in just that day....I'm guessing you can connect the dots from there. Since you have both and seem to be building on them both, I just like to here your take on how the compare or differ, which you prefer n why8) |
Re: Ant's Yeti Quote:
The wraith is basically the Jack of all trades because it does everything pretty well. It crawls great and goes fast (depending on setup, I have a roc412 in mine). I really only have it because I wanted something new so I picked up a Wraith kit. So I guess I dont really have a great answer for you lol. One thing I'm not a fan of is having a go fast bashing rig without some sort of servo saver. I probably Use my wraith the least soley because I keep having to repair or replace a servo. Not cheapo servos either, titanium geared ones even get destroyed |
Re: Ant's Yeti For me the wraith makes an excellent crawler and trail rig. I've had mine for 4 years. I got a yeti as a jack of all trades go fast rig. It handles fast very well and can still handle the trails and light duty crawling. |
Re: Ant's Yeti This sweet rig still around? |
