Default New Diff gears want to crunch under input shaft pressure.

Chewed up the stock RTR rear bevel gears, ordered a new HD set from Axial, same toothcount. When I put them in then turn the input shaft they are fine. but if I push the input shaft in, simulating pressure from the driveshaft, I feel them wanting to bind. What am I missing guys?

You need to install the input shaft/gear, push it against the bearings and then put the drive shaft on to hold it there. Then you may need to shim the diff unit to set the mesh where it should be. If it's binding when you push the input shaft inward, there is too much slop.

Thanks for the response, I appriciate it. Would my local hobby shop have the shims? Are they a somewhat standard item to stock? And where exactly is there room for shimming? If I pull out the ring gear, its tight there. I see nowhere for shims. I presume I need to bring the ring gear in closer to the pinion to keep the pinion towards the outer edge of the teeth to prevent my problem.

Team durango has some 5mm id shim, .2 and .5mm 5hick. These go on the pinion shaft. Some go on the shaft before you put the pinion back i the bearing. Some go on the shaft after assembled in the axle housing bearing to prevent the gear to slide back in and damage the ring gear.
