Default my leaky Icon shock fix

So I've been lurking for some time now, drooling over all of y'alls Yetis.
FINALLY i got my Yeti kit and put the ol girl together.

Boy did i not enjoy my shocks leaking like a siv... so i did a little looking around and found some Traxxas x-rings that fit the bill. I replaced the plastic spacer with two blue x-rings. so far after a pack through it, the shocks are bone-dry!! best part is my LHS had the shock parts kits for $2.50 each, with 4 x-rings inside each. so i bought 2 packs and used 2 x-rings between the stock clear o-rings. so far so good.

here's pics!

Awesome idea. I just rebuilt them and green slimed the hell out of them. If they don't hold up I'll have to try these.

The Traxxas' shock diaphragms are also supposed to be an upgrade to the Axial ones... At least they were, on the Exo. Are you using them?

Thumbs up Re: my leaky Icon shock fix

Yes, axial shocks is big problem, I was surprised by bad quality of it. After only one day running my Yeti all oil leaked away from rear shocks. I found drops of oil on shock shafts, lower spring retainers. Traxxas Shocks have been working without big problems for 4 years in my Traxxas Slash. I have such traxxas shocks rebuilt kit but never use it )) , I will try to fix axial shocks soon, thanks for advise!
PS Sorry for English, it is not my native ))

Glad to hear that, k_dub! I will be trying that fix whenever I get to dig in to the new Yeti, which arrived a week ago )

Hello, how did you hold up white stock rubber ring? It should be always in bottom to clean up oil. Without plastic cap it will move up and down. All rubber rings in your shocks without any fixing? Don't You use plastic spacer anymore?
I tried to replace stock rubber ring with blue rings, but I failed, shocks is still leaking.

The x rings replace the plastic spacer.
That simple.
The retaining cap is still used.

I did this to both my Yeti's.
Works very well.

Have no issues after doing this also. I even had the nut on the piston come off and the shock shaft came out and almost no oil came out! thats awesome.

I just did this to my rear shocks, haven't gotten to the front shocks yet. I'm hoping it works as well for me as it has for all of you. Mine are the RTR shocks, not the Icons.

It shouldn't matter. Only difference is the color of the shock body and the coating on the shaft.

I kinda figured that, but I included that info for clarification sake.

WOW!

An absolute must with these shocks.

With this mod these shocks feel like a whole different product!

I rebuilt these things new so many times with the original parts. Air issues, leaking issues, these things just wouldn't assemble right. I owned it up as this just being my first kit. The other issues is the stock diaphragm sucking into the shock body. Junk out of the box. With this traxxas kit one time build, went together easy and feel perfect!

Thanks!
