Esc overheating? I'm running stock esc and motor with 3s. The last two times running the car suddenly it stops and when I hit the trigger, the truck shudders and doesn't move. After a minute or two it runs again. This continues for the entire time. Could the esc be overheating? |
Re: Esc overheating? The best way to check for overheating would be a temperature gauge, so outside of that, it's anyones guess as to whether or not it's overheating. However, I've read on this forum that a few people have had similar problems with 3S batteries when used WITHOUT a BEC installed. That could be your issue. Try searching "3S BEC" or something along those lines and see if that gets you anywhere. I've only run mine on 2S so I've never experienced what you're describing, but hopefully this helps you so that you can get it running cleanly again soon! |
The you need a bec if your yanking the stock electronics. Ae5 and tatic servo. I would also look into dropping your pinion size 2 teeth to help with temperatures. |
Re: Esc overheating? My yeti did the the same on 3s. I dropped to a 14 pinion and a 68t spur and still thermal . Then I watched my esc go up in smoke. I'm going to try going to a 12t pinion when I get my new esc. If that doesn't work going to a 2s battery. |
Re: Esc overheating? My stock ESC smoked up on first charge with a 3s battery. Im thinking about going with a smaller pinion but am still a little scared:shock: |
Re: Esc overheating? Back when I had stock electronics I put a fan on the esc and dropped to a 14 tooth pinion and I never had a thermal issue again |
Re: Esc overheating? I just finished building my kit, and I ended up using the RTR electronics (motor & esc) in it because I ended up getting a great deal. Anyway, I installed the ESC fan that is available from Castle Creations due to the amount of threads on here about the stock electronics overheating. TowerHobbies.com | Castle Creations CC Blower SCT/SV3 Fan I run it on 3S, and haven't had an issue yet, but I haven't stressed tested it yet either. |
Re: Esc overheating? I ran 3S with 100% stock during the winter / mid spring and was just fine. now in the summer I had few overheats. I dropped the 13T pinion and got the fan for motor and esc and the temperatures are around 130F. But still had another overheat doing some easy crawling. If I keep the speed (U4 races / faster trails) it's all good. Going slow make the temperatures rise a lot. |
Re: Esc overheating? I've found that any slow crawling causes a thermal. To many thermals and you fry the esc. The fan for the esc sounds like a good idea. Maybe someone should tell axial. |
Re: Esc overheating? Im in the same boat my Yeti shut down after about 10 min on 3S... boy it was a fun 10 min, that thing ripped. Im going to try the fan option too I mean most trucks come with a fan on the ESc to begin with I dont know why Axial didnt provide it. |
Re: Esc overheating? I've installed a fan and a bec on a new ae 3 esc still gonna try to run 3s battery I'll let you know if it helps |

Re: Esc overheating? So I've installed a 10 amp bec,a castle fan,a 14 pinion and a 68t spur new radio and so far it hasn't got the esc over 90 degrees on slow crawling. (I also have the front diff locked) |
Re: Esc overheating? So I have updated the firmware and got a esc fan on order. Hopefully this will solve my issue. |
Re: Esc overheating? My ESC did the same too, problem solved after i added in CC BEC pro... no more issue since than even running with 19/56 on 3S now. |
Re: Esc overheating? The castle creations sidewinder fan fits great the stock ESC and also cheap !
