Is it possible to machine the hex pin into the shaft instead of drilling a hole for one? Maybe that would fix it?

If I can't use a Shift hub I'll have to put up with the bending.

There is a bearing in between the pin and the flange.

Also its not feasable to machine in the pin, the pins are a totally different material, and very hard-to the point of being brittle.

What about some heavy duty, steel clamping hexes? They would brace the pin area that seems to be bending.

I think doing that and replacing the pin hole with a couple small flat spots to help key the clamping hex would be an idea that's worth a shot.

Exactly what I suggested and keeping it 5mm

Exactly like Hot Racing YET10X06 does with their shafts?

I'm not sure their steel is better than anybody else's. I'll be the ginny pig as soon as I bend the stock axles. I would like them even better if they were not sold in a set, then the price would be better at tempting to me to try them out.

Confirmed at my LHS today...

The VP centered currie shafts will work in the SSD centered Yeti axle for those of you who need a solution while SSD works out the kinks.
I don't own this setup, but the measurements on the shafts are identical in the critical dimension from the locker tang to the bearing flange.

Centered yeti or wraith? Two very different lengths

Wraith I would assume. Currie is much shorter than the Yeti width SSD.

Good to know for I just discovered by axle bent right at the pin hole also. I really wanted to go out this weekend. I'll give them a try

So I can't find any Currie axles locally. Only one store here but they carry Vanquish. I was also told Vanquish would not be selling the shafts alone anymore. "If you need a new one you would have to send your damaged one back in order to get it replaced". Wether this is true or not I'm not sure. Not many places on the Web have them right now. A main was the only place I found searching for 5 minutes. Here's a photo of my bent axle shaft.

My local hobby shop has a good relationship with VP and could get them for you.
They ship.
Call them.

I know it's really limited in Canada. Not sure where you are, but best luck I've had is with Xtreme RC in Oshawa Ontario. They stock a lot of vanquish and ship.

Unlock the rear diff - that will help a ton. Yeti's are heavy, and even on 2S a 1/8 power system is a lot of power for a locked diff heavy truck with soft grippy tires.

Back in the day I used to race TMaxx's, and tried out a spool in the rear - I started destroying drive shafts left and right. Even upgrading to steel didn't help - I've still got the bent steel shafts in my parts box. Somethings got to give, and it's almost always the axle. After going back to the diff, I even went back to plastic shafts eventually to save weight.

Unlocking the rear and using some super thick oil would give most of the benefits of the locked diff but still allow a bit of slip on landings - that should take a lot if not all of the stresses off.

The currie shafts do not work on the wraith Ssd rear axle. They are lacking the collar at the spool end so the wheel hexes rub on the end caps and wear a hole in them and the bearing falls out. I learned the hard way.
