Bent my first SSD axle today....disappointed Well, a bit disappointed today....not a huge deal because it isn't an expensive fix. But last week I installed the SSD grey diamond centered axle assembly in my Yeti and was instantly in love with it. What a gorgeous piece for such a great price. But today, with only about 20 mins total run time on the new rear end, she took a pretty soft roll in the parking lot and bam....instant bent axle. Gonna order a new set, hope it was a fluke or defect and really hope this isn't an indication of things to come. Anyone else done this? |
Re: Bent my first SSD axle today....disappointed I wonder if the VP centered currie axle shafts are compatible? |
Re: Bent my first SSD axle today....disappointed I think I saw somewhere that the VP centered shafts dont work. Different design since the currie uses clamp rings to hold the bearings/shafts in. |
Re: Bent my first SSD axle today....disappointed Good question....I don't know! |
Re: Bent my first SSD axle today....disappointed If thats true....bummer. |
Re: Bent my first SSD axle today....disappointed The outer bearing really holds the shaft in. How is the SSD design different? |
Re: Bent my first SSD axle today....disappointed Based on what I can see, they should be compatible assuming the width is the same. http://www.ssd-rc.com/images/diamond...le-black-4.jpg http://cdn6.bigcommerce.com/s-1pjnuj...80.380.jpg?c=2 |

Re: Bent my first SSD axle today....disappointed Using a Wraith width axles on a Yeti with offset hubs puts stress on the end of the axle shaft when you roll. That is why it's better to run Yeti Width axles. |

Re: Bent my first SSD axle today....disappointed The Yeti specific axle is SSD00052 or SSD00049. |
Re: Bent my first SSD axle today....disappointed Bent both sides on mine. Light roll, I straightened them out and kept going. As mild as the stock axial shafts were they didn't bend this easy even with the wide offset on the wheels. |
Re: Bent my first SSD axle today....disappointed I don't think our shafts are softer than stock. The aluminum case won't flex like the stock plastic case so something has to give... |

Re: Bent my first SSD axle today....disappointed It's a beautiful case no question about it. This sounds like the perfect opportunity for CREEPERBOB @ CBRB Custom Titanium Axle Shafts. I don't recall ever hearing about one of his TI axles bending under any condition? He may already be all over this issue it would be well worth it to check him out. You'll only need to buy one replacement it will probably out last the buyer most likely ... "thumbsup" |
Re: Bent my first SSD axle today....disappointed When I owned a Yeti I don't think it ever had a "light" or "soft" roll over.:lmao: |

Re: Bent my first SSD axle today....disappointed I bent one on second run...... But far from a "soft" rollover. When you are driving an AGGRESSIVE truck like the yeti, expect damage. Everyone acts like it is so much stronger than it is fast. Speed kills everything. You can try SSD yeti lockouts with longer axels. Should help that's what I'm running.my brother rockinthesummit has been trying to break his since he got it with no luck.... Only axle pins |
