silly putty open rear diff

anyone running an open diff with silly putty instead of oil? I have seen silly putty used on a few different applications and wonder the results on a bigger, heavier and more powerful rig like the yeti. i am currently running 500k oil with o-rings on the axle shafts, but the oil still gets out, becomes ineffective and makes a mess inside the housing. i think the silly putty might act like higher weight oil, 1.5m or 2m and i wont have to worry about it pouring out of the diff.

i use this truck strictly for bashing, no crawling

I tried silly putty in my open front diff. after 3 runs it was all over the diff gears. my Holmes hobbies 540xl spun it right out of the diff and it started working like an open diff again.

you need more than one person to tell you it will work, but have to be replaced every handfull of runs?

If you just bash why do you want it so thick?

It's worth a shot I run it in my 1:10 yeti front diff & love it... in extreme bind it will slip & not twist my universals.
If you don't like remove it, if you like it but silly puddy gets spun out of diff use JB weld puddy.

This diff fluid from Gravity RC works like a champ. It does not leak or spin out. I've had it in my YETI since early spring and haven't looked back. It's a great compromise between locking (which I never considered) and the free spinning open diff. I used the Traxxas 500,000 at first and although it was better than stock the 2.5 mil is way better still. Well worth the money IMO.

Now for the record, I use my YETI for U4 type racing and trail runs. I do NOT bash it & launch it off stuff or jump tool sheds, lol.

Instructions from a SCX10 show that you can use grease inside the diff instead of silicone diff fluid or silly putty.

I have using this stuff called Macks pillow soft silicone putty, it's for ear plugs. it's silicone base so it won't dry out! You can find it at any supermarket in the pharmacy section. I have an open rear differential in my yeti and this works really well, it won't leak out!

Pillow soft! Great Idea. I made my own putty with hot water, Borax and Elmer's White Glue. I use it in my Bomber with open diffs. front and rear packed with my custom Elmer's putty; still crawls but lets loose in a bind. I bet this Soft silicone will be even better! Thanks! After running limited slip on my rock racers I will not go back to locked diffs (unless using brushed motors). Limited slip handles great, crawls great, brushless motor runs more cool and there is less wear/stress on parts.

I run racers edge diff putty. It works great no issues at all l. It has a little slip when you need it but it's is locked most of the time!
