Issue with unlocked rear

Hey guys,
A few weeks ago I decided to run an open rear diff. I originally used orings on the axle shafts and 100000k silicone oil. The orings were not enough to keep the fluid in and it made a mess of the inside of the axle. Someone else recommend silicone ear plugs, the putty kind. I thought this would be a good idea because it won't leak or dry out. At slow speeds everything works great. Once I get on the throttle hard it makes a terrible ratcheting sound, almost like an impact driver. It also goes half as fast as it used too. It also only seems to do it when the wheels are under load. It will not make the noise when it's on the work bench

Is it possible the silicone is causing it to lock up too much? Not enough? I'm at a loss.

you better take it a part . sounds like the ring and pinion are striped out . the ring gear may have come loose from the diff cup . those little screws are hard to get tight .

Yeah, my guess is the ring and pinion skipping or the internal diff gears skipping.

Yeah not sure what it was. The ring and pinion showed a little wear but not much at all. Same with the spider gears looked fine but I packed a little more silicone in there and it runs very smooth again. Hurry up weekend

kinda had the same thing happen, it was front ring and pinion. also had the same issue with the unlocked rear, ended up putting the locked diff back in

I put a little more silicone in the housing and put it'll together. Ran it hard twice and haven't had any problems
