Default Crawler Innovations Yeti #1 & Yeti #2

Crawler Innovations acquired these two yetis in trades. Both were sliders and each came with some upgrades from the previous owners. After some parts, some repairs and tuning adjustments they were up and running.

Yeti #1 will be staying open front diff and geared more so at track racing.

Yeti #2 will be staying locked front diff and be geared more at rock racing / u4.

Both yetis have been up and running for several months now;

The white sand all over yeti #1 is from a trip to White Sand New Mexico back in June. CI has some great video footage of yeti #1 on the sand dunes that still needs to be produced.

This what Yeti #2 looked like when CI first acquired it. (I did not take a first start pic for yeti 1);

I wasted no time getting it running with;
Tekin 2500kv pro4
Castle Creation Esc and
BEC
Hitec servo
3s lipo

Wheels / Tires / Foams;
RC4WD 2.2 Baja Claw TTC Radial Tires
6 bolt 1.50" width wheels
6.0 Double Deuce Comp Cut Inners front and rear, Medium Outers with a Deuces Wild 4.50" tall tuning disc on the outside of each foam front and rear

Yeti 2 had more after market upgrades than Yeti 1.

What it looks like currently after Mrs. CI made a custom top for it;

Default Crawler Innovations Yeti #1 & Yeti #2

Upgrades to Yeti 1;
HD Standard Ratio Gear Set for front to produce a mild over drive effect since the rear axle has HD UD gears:

On the very first film session with yeti 1 it cracked a bar near the roof on the cage. It was then I knew I needed something stronger. UC Fab makes these yetis cages and they are top quality. I hated painting the chassis and covering his work it's so nice;

Another great feature about these cages is they change the front upper shock mounting location and it's a huge improvement over stock. The shock angle is much better and the yeti handles rough terrain much more smoothly.

When it was time to install the UC Fab Cage, I used the opportunity to upgrade a few other parts on yeti 1. One large upgrade was the Vanquish Products centered currie axle for the rear. Running an aluminum axle really help these cars COG. STRC aluminum front skid was added for durability since these cars take a lot of abuse at the front.
Since this is a go fast yeti, the interior was left out for easier battery removal.

Looking good Eddie, This is the first two Yeti build thread. Go big or go home. I like your cut and shuts on #1 the last time I saw a Panther Cougars I was digging in my salvage tire box. I'm also interested in how you like overdriving the front of #1 . It's interesting to see #1 with the UC Fab cage. I can't believe how addicting the Yeti is and I just bought a kit and I'am still collecting parts so I'm a late to the game. I'm building mine to go racing as we have new U4 track locally and I'm pumped up for some racing.

So in regards to the cage, and how it relocates the shock. Does this mean that the cage loses the lift feature and becomes one with the chassis?

Yes.
The metal top is now attached to the chassis. That is another reason for leaving the interior out.

How much of a pain is it to remove/replace the battery now?

Been busy and lots of changes and pictures to report;

The UC Fab Yeti has been rebuilt again, with black aluminum and orange parts this time. The interior was modified to fit in the narrower cage. Here are current pics after a day of test and tune on the ETXRCC u4 track.

The UC fab car is still running an open front diff. Straight up, I'm not a fan of these yetis. After dumping a ton money into both, they still are horribly limited by a lack of steering travel and are inconsistent on the track. Making a yeti turn tightly, consistently, on a track is a hard to do. These cars shouldn't be so hard to drive. Especially on a prepared surface designed for the yetis intended purpose. I can't believe Axial made a short course truck out of it, what a joke that is on a track compared to an Associated or track designed RC.

Open or locked in the front makes no real difference in the horrible turning. Locked front helps pull through the rock garden and drive out of awkward situations, but it is harder on parts. Open can seem slightly faster on track, but does not go through the rock garden section consistently and is lost trying to drive out of awkward moments.

With all that said, the locked front yeti has been parted out. Electronics and rear axle went into a new build and the rest was sold. Here's what it looked like when it left and it had a long list of upgrades;

Yeah this piggy is my problem now. I'll see if I can have some fun with her. I drove my friends beat to death POS and it was still pretty fun so this one has to be better. I've already ordered a few hundred dollars worth of stuff so I'll see what I can do to improve on an already good foundation. All my other rigs are solid axle front and rear so I'm excited to try something a bit different. I'm wondering if it would be better to keep the info going in this thread so all progress is kept together. Then the person that buys it from me can post up here too.

I fully enjoyed bashing my UC Fab yeti before I turned it into the UC Fab yeti. For just bashing around the back yard and general fun, I enjoyed the yeti. But once I turned it into a competitive race rig, the enjoyment was gone. Solid axle for the win.

As for the build thread continuation, that is entirely up to you. Please feel free to if you would like to. In my experience, I have found that continuing original build threads are better for the car and the forum.
