Default Imaguy unboxes the Axial Yeti Trophy RTR

If only I didn't have a job, I'd be in the studio taking pics of this glorious truck.

Much more to come. EDIT: Photo much less bigger now. Initial impressions: It's bigger than I thought it would be (that's what she said).

Maybe if I could zoom out 1000x I could see a video somewhere?

So here it is out of the box. I'm focusing on the things that are different vs. the original Yeti RTR, so if you want to see naked chassis pics, go right to Axial's website. They take better pictures than I.

Firstly, it's substantially larger than my "10th scale" Associated SC10.

No comparison shot, but a couple inches longer and maybe an inch wider on the body. Definitely taller. It's a big truck, but dimensionally, it doesn't seem like they skimped anywhere to make it fit on this chassis. Everything looks correct and proportioned nicely. I'm going to focus on the details of the body, as that's what's really different here.

A nice interior, with two vacuum formed drivers with separate heads.

These plastic add-on front louvres not only look cool, they appear to be functional.

Great molded front grille and light buckets. The decals really set off the depth.

Great looking rear cage and tail lights. This lexan body has a lot of detail molded into it and the additional bolt-ons really make it something pretty special.

A look at the light buckets. Lots of room for lights.

Blue shock bits to replicate Kings, and licensed. Not the same level of detail found in the RC4WD licensed ones, but these need to be a lot more functional at speed. Let's see how they hold up!

The front bumper seems a bit flimsy upon initial inspection. It also has a bunch of holes which look like mounts for more lights, or perhaps there's some new light pods coming out? Same thing on the rear roof spoiler.

Here's look at the tires vs. a typical 10th scale Short Course truck tire.

I'm pretty stoked to get this outside and give it a good run. Stand by for video!

There's more detail in the body than I was expecting. Some cool bits in there. I'm digging the light buckets and exhaust.

Nice truck, does the body still flip up when you pull front pins?

Definitely. They're really making a push for realism in all their latest releases.

Not anymore. The body and interior panel are held on with four pins. Everything lifts off. Cage included.

Well, they're a 2.2/3.0 short course-style wheel, so they're different from anything the Yeti has worn before. Closer to what the Exo had. Not an overwhelming amount of grip, but the bite is just right. This tire was probably designed to have everything let go a bit more than the OG Yeti, and it performs flawlessly on the intended terrain. Wait till you see the video, this thing can power through the turns. It still exhibits some traction roll, but with the rear sway bar and added weight in the rear from the cage work - you'll be amazed at the difference.

I'm really excited. Headgquake and I took it for a two-hour long run through his track and trail system and this was the most fun we'd had since we started racing each other with our SC10's. There's gobs of speed, grip and just the right amount of sliding that makes a Trophy Truck a Trophy Truck. Despite being a 4x4, the bias really makes it feel more like a rear wheel drive truck. The front diff does just enough to keep you pointed in the right direction whereas the locked rear puts a lot of power down.

I hesitate to say that this is what the Yeti should have been first, rather than second.

Importing and starting the edit now.

Looks much better in your pictures than in Axial's.

How are the louvers functional? Are there holes in the body?

Thanks, I didn't bother to take pictures in my actual studio because they would have turned out exactly the same as Axial's! Ha!

Louvre's have holes in the body. Totally functional.

Thanks. I asked this question on my phone and I couldn't see the holes. Now I see them. Interesting feature...

I'm super pleased with this Yeti variant. It's amazing on the dirt and will really come to life in the sand. The RTR was trouble-free out of the box and performed beautifully. If you don't already have a Yeti, or want to try Short Course/Baja style driving, this is for you. Super well balanced and a ton of fun.

Here's a video to get you hyped.

Awesome video.
She really sags in the back end under acceleration tho eh? Seems more so than a typical TT. Maybe it's just me.
