| STRC lockouts loose!?!?!?
Just got a batch of STRC parts in for my Yeti kit and upon installing the rear lockouts, I noticed they were a bit loose. I've used STRC parts in the past and have always been happy with them but this is not good. I purchased them from RPP but I'm not sure if I should contact them or STRC direct. Any suggestions or is there a fix?

They're the same lockouts as the Wraith uses so STRC has been making them a while. Plus there's only two screws that hold them on. You might try switching sides to see if that changes anything, doubtful though. I'd probably contact STRC and see what they say before RPP as it sounds like a QC problem. They do have a rep here on RCC also. |

I sent an email to STRC and awaiting a response. I'll try switching sides to see if that makes a difference when I get home. Another thing I was thinking of doing was to put some slight squeeze on the lockouts to tighten the tolerance a bit but I'll wait til STRC emails back. The looseness is from front to back but up and down where the screws are is good. |

If you end up keeping the lockouts use some blue lock tight (a lot) on the splines & let dry. I know it's a Mickey mouse fix, but I think it will work.

| Re: STRC lockouts loose!?!?!? This thought crossed mind mind too. I was even thinking of just a bit of CA gel glue on one of the spline recesses, let dry and do some filing to get a tight fit as well. I'm waiting on another part order to get the front end done so I'm in no hurry. I envisioned this build as a long term experience so I'm good with the slow meticulous route.

Maybe even some epoxy to build up the axle a bit... I'd go with another lockout first though.

Just put some BEEF TUBES in your axle case and screws of proper length go into to them for an super strong hold. No slop. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/axles...s-finally.html |

UPDATE! In my usual obsessing I decided to put the squeeze on the lockouts. I taped a couple of pieces of thin wood to the jaws of my bench vise and placed one of the lockouts in it. I ever so slightly squeezed the lockout on the spline end to tighten up the tolerance checking fit as I applied ever more. After about fifteen minutes or so of checking and rechecking, i got a good tight (but not over tight) fit with no front to back wobble. No marring of the finish and no filing needed. I did go a bit overboard on one but squeezing the opposite end (the raised areas where the screws mount) will bring it back into spec but again, be careful and go slow. If any of you guys are having the wobble, try this out but BEWARE! Too much squeezing and you could crush the lockouts! Do this at your own risk. I am not responsible for any carnage. Results may vary like anything else where good ole Yankee Ingenuity is used. If I get time after the weekend, I may do a quick set of pics walking through my process. |

That said, I'd go VP in the future. All my other STRC parts I have purchased recently for the Yeti and in the past for my Associated trucks have been perfect. YMMV | |
