Don't you think the car will be too heavy with all those (very good looking) aluminium parts? A heavier vehicle means more force when you crash and hence a larger risk of things breaking. Which is why you have aluminium in the first place I guess, to avoid breakages...

My point is that there has to be an optimum aluminium - plastic ratio, that keeps weight low while still beefing up critical components. Will you aim for that sweet spot, wherever it is, or just go metal all the way?

I agree with you 100%, my goal is to do a build from scratch (as previously mentioned I'm not able to fabricate parts) and yes it's expensive and will be heavy. It will NOT be a shelf Queen, my driving style with the Yetis is rock/desert racing with a little bit of crawling, I'm not into crazy jumping (I save that for the Nero). I'm hoping the Holmes Hobby motor/ esc combo and gearing can handle it. I'll monitor motor heat closely. Crashes are inevitable but I'll try my best to keep the shiny side up. It will be interesting to see if the Vanquish parts can handle it.
As a reference, I did a lot of upgrades on my rtr and it's holding up very well.

Hmmm....
As much as I wanted to go with Vanquish I've decided to give the HR cnc aluminum/carbon fiber graphite a try.
If anyone out there has these let me know what you think.

:lmao:Lol! Saw that and decided against it. Gotta have a little flex somewhere ;-)
I'm searching for carbon fiber panels, options seem limited.

Looking forward to install next week.
I need some help from you SSD 2 speed conversion owners.... I only got one servo mount in my delivery and it's obviously plastic ( they advertise Aluminum), I emailed SSD today hoping this will be taken care of. Can anyone give me advice regarding mounting the servo for the SSD conversion?

So what the heck....it's gonna be a month or two before I can get my motor/ esc combo
So it's time to bust out the paint, do some helmets, detailing,etc.....
Probably will rob my motor/esc budget to get doodads, thingamajigs, and whatnots.

It's coming together nicely. Have you weighed it yet?

magic_yeti 08-15-2017 09:16 AM

Re: From the "tub up"

I now what mine weights
so i assume this will be a little heavier than mine (more shiny alloy part 8) ) so i guess round 6 kg 11-12 lbs depending on battery size

Cheez 08-15-2017 10:11 AM

Re: From the "tub up"

It's sitting at about 5 & 1/2 lbs. right now. Motor/esc will add about 12 & 1/2 oz. , I most likely will go with plastic wheels.
I haven't decided yet between aluminum or CG panels. I've seen really nice CG panels in the past but can't seem to track them down.
If anyone can point me in the right direction regarding panels I would appreciate it.
Wheels, tires, roll cage, panels, and remaining parts will definitely bring it up to the double digit weight.

Currie antirock sway bar, Axial sway bar clamp and 4 link mount plus some green cone washers are on the way. Once again motor/esc gonna have to wait a bit longer
