Default Yeti Questions

He all,

New to the Yeti just picked up off a RC shop that is going out of business. She was a kit version that the dealer had put together and had on display. Inside it for a motor setup is a Castle Sidewinder 3 with the 3800kv motor. In the package deal was 4 RAGE Lipos 3s 5200. It is geared stock? 16/64? So I am wondering is this a good setup? Castle paper work has nothing there for this gearing or this size lipo for this type of truck. Only thing close say I should use a 2s max? What are your thoughts?

I'd run it the way it came.

Started with the same setup. but used it only with 2s, cause castle rated this combo only capable 2s. many running it with 3s without issue. keep an eye on the temps.
the motor is a blast in the yeti, very happy with it.

Swap out the SV3 with a MMP or one of the new "X"

If that's like the AE-3 then it's an egg cooker even with a 3150kv motor on 3S. Well if you don't live in an arctic region anyway.

The Hobbywing MAX10 SCT ESC and the WP SC8 are excellent waterproof ESCs if you are happy to go non sensored. They are very affordable.

I'd go the older SC8 myself (I have both) as it's 10A higher rated at 130A and has a drag brake that actually works in case you ever want to 'crawl' the Yeti (which is possible though I put it quotes as it's not going to be like a true crawler; more rock bouncer). Both EScs run cool.

Hey guys,

Ran the ruck this evening and I must say im very happy. That thing can really get along, takes the humps and jumps like a camp and just love trail riding. I do however have a couple more questions, one thing i noticed if I hit bigger air the truck nose dives hard, not sure if i have something setup wrong or what it is. Since I am new to Lipos (ran NMH in all my other rigs) and new to brushless, Im not sure on the temps for these things. One big thing i noticed was the LONGER run times on this thing holy crap it goes for ever!!! Im getting close to 20-25min (maybe even longer as I wasnt really timing it)on a pack!! And im not taking it easy on this thing. So battery temps are around 80-90 F, esc was reading 150-170 and the motor was 160-180. Seems hot to me, would gear help with that? Any suggestions would be great.

What are the ambient temps? The nose diving can be helped with some shock tuning. Try a little thicker rear shock oil and springs. Mine was bottoming out when I hit a jump and throwing the back up hard.

Ok, temps are getting high but not too high yet. If that was after a full pack you should be ok. Maybe drop a tooth on the pinion and continue to check temps.

Thanks man,

Just placed an order for some new spurs 15 to 12. For the time being I will limit run times and let her cool down. Its going to be hard its just so much fun to run!!!

Default Yeti Questions

As long as you're under 180 on the motor and under 220 on the ESC you should be ok. Those are max temps so if you run that hot all the time you'll limit your lifespan. And you ordered pinions.

Nose heavy. The yeti is a 60/40 truck..... way too much up front for jumping. I set mine down low and it hauls and works well on whoops, still too nose down for any serious jumping. I did switch out to the Tekin 4x4HD / MMP and runs Kool

Yeah it's nose heavy but shock tuning will go a long way. Mine isn't bad at all.

The way the yeti jumps can be tuned in part with shocks, as well as adjusting the anti-squat.

How To: Tune with Anti-Squat

The yeti is sensitive to gearing. I have the two-speed installed with the stock 16/64 gearing and 5" tall tires, and use the low gear for trails and crawling and high for blasting around, the the temps stay under control with the RTR electronics. I tried a 13t pinion and it runs even cooler, but the top speed drops below 30 mph.

try 700cst(~60wt) oil and get the blue axial 70mm shocks from the wraith. perfect for the front shocks. rear with 35wt is a good starting point, but needs a lot of testing with different spring options. the yeti rear setup is very depending on surface and weight.
keeping the temps low at crawling/trailing and getting a better low speed control with an unsensored setup, the 2-speed helps a lot.
on jumps you can controll the nose over throttle (~3/4 on liftoff) , but i'm still learning it.

yeah lipos are great, i use zippy compact 5800mAh 60c softpacks and i get ~1 to 2 hours out of them.
