Default Axial yeti rock racer.

I got this on a trade has a lot of upgrades . It is running the axial vanguard esc and vanguard 3150kv motor . After i run it a little while the motor and esc are pretty hot. I have a 16 tooth pinion and the spur gear is a 64 tooth . Would a 14 or 15 tooth pinion be better for it. The speed is descent so i know if i drop on pinion it will be slower just more torque. Will this make it run cooler. Thanks

New ESC is really needed if your environ isn't cold. Mine was an egg cooker. At 60A it's hugely underspec'd.

Haven't had an issue with the 3150 motor though. I think 55C is the max it's hit after a major thrash in near 40C weather.

if running 3s it's normal that it gets hot to cock eggs. stock is fine with 2s. going down 1or 2 on pinion helps on 3s but don't really solve it. also a fan on esc and motor will help. buti would replace the esc with a mamba x .

Yea, I swap out for a Hobbywing Sc-8. Can be found under $60, has a fan, and capable of 4s, so it barely gets warm on 3. I find it gives much better throttle control than the stock unit, too.

I have a fan on my motor, but it's not necessary. On the hottest, most disgusting, Missouri days it gets around 120° Frankenstein.

I ran the RTR motor/esc for year, and it was still working fine when I swapped in a new combo.

I did have the 2-speed installed with the 16/64 gearing, which takes a lot of heat out of it for crawling and trail running, and eventually put a small 12v fan on the ESC and a castle fan on the motor so that the ESC would only hit its thermal cutoff when I purposely stalled the motor when climbing.

However, I did use 5" or smaller tires which would gear it down a bit.
