Default Gearing up for snow- Snow shields

Snow will be here soon! The Yeti does pretty good in the snow and is lots of fun, but one problem I continually have is the steering clogging up with snow. I made some shields to try to keep the snow out, hopefully it will help. The red parts are a cut up rubber jar opener.

Anyone else do anything to help in the snow?

Yes. That! Can't wait to test these tires. Also you can see my first mod a dust cover made out of 0.5mm abs plate mounted with velcro tape, this keep the snow out

yeah i took mine up to the nearest mountain with snow (yes that's possible in san diego lol) last year. it loads up pretty bad right on the steering linkage. and for some reason i lost the front drive shaft pin in the snow. RWD sucks in snow lol

nice work on the shields! i might give it a go with some spare sheetmetal i have laying around. and i gorilla glued the new pin for the drive shaft lol when i did it i couldn't help but quote from boondock saints: "where you goin? NO WEAH."

I was just looking around to see if there was an inner cover available after I filled my truck with mud yesterday. Great ideas here, I'll have to come up with a deflector of my own, Not for snow though, just the mud.

Leave your rig out for 5-10 minutes (with the battery warm inside the house, car, etc.) then after that, hook up the battery before driving. This cools down the rig to the ambient temperature outside and won't melt the snow onto it.

Those fabric dust shrouds work as well.

I spoke too soon. Even all the old timers I know said they’ve never seen this much. Took this 3 hours ago and it still hasn’t stopped. Big flakes the size of college students holed up in their safe areas. Lol.

I’d never consider running an RC in this because it’s all slush and mud underneath. It’ll all be gone in a couple of days.

Maybe. I’ve also seen -4*F and 113*F in the same year.

How much speed do you need to use those sand paddles in snow?

Could you use a set on something slower like a scx10 on packed snow where standard tires slip or just dig in? I don't mean when we has 4 or more inches or the fluffy stuff.

-4 lol we go out and stand in water up to our chest and fish in that. -19f are the really cold days fishing, that separates the men from the boys, the anglers from the weekend warriors.

We don’t have the gear for it. It’ll hard freeze for maybe 3-4 days and it’s gone. The heat will soak in for weeks though. In my younger days playing football in 110* with 80-90% humidity. Or in the woods cutting trees, pulling fences, picking up square bails, etc. Later in life having an outdoor job having to work in that mess.

As for the Yeti in the snow, wouldn’t some skis up front work just as well and using RWD only to push?

Milk jug cut and zip tied into place. 2.8" Proline Badlands for traction.

that's what it looks like here, we get a ton more than that during our winters though. My winter wheeling days with the RC cars are limited int he winter months, plus its cold as hell outside!

From last year in early January

We got a 1" dusting here in the STL area. Seeing the benefit of keeping the snow out of the steering. Cut my fun short.
