| Selectable front diff lock?
Did quite a bit of searching and don't see any options for a selectable front diff locker for the Yeti.... anybody know if such a thing exists..... Looking for a cable locking servo driven setup (think TRX 4. I have a 2 speed trans and was thinking to run a cable to the trans servo so that when I shift to low gear, it locks the front.... high gear would open it...... Thanks in advance. The only thing I have seen remotely resembling this is the traxxas summit diffs, and they are significantly larger. Are you looking for stability at speed, or reduced turning radius? |

| Re: Selectable front diff lock? Hmm........... that's an interesting thought.. Don't know about traxxas stuff at all so will investigate. How much bigger is it exactly? Gear ratio is 2.85, so not far off.

I'm sure someone with access to both trucks could make up a diff housing and 3D print it. Sent from my ONEPLUS A5010 using Tapatalk |

I would (and do) use silly putty or 1M wt fluid, and get great result with that, even without the underdrive gears. Why the need to unlock the diff?

I am more interested in crawling and trail driving than going fast. I have a custom built body that is a rolling piece of art.... I picked it up on an impulse and am trying to figure out what to do with it to prevent it from just becoming a shelf queen because a Yeti isn't something I would otherwise purchase. I will likely get another body to put on so I can actually drive the thing hard and have some fun with it.... but for me, that means crawling and trail walking. The chassis is mostly stock but it does have a 2 speed, links, dual rear shocks and a few other goodies. Whatever I have, I can't leave it alone and enjoy researching and upgrading with the best parts available. I read the forums and it sounded like there are a lot of people breaking parts with locked front diffs so i just thought it would be cool to be able to unlock it for cruising around and be able to lock it. I will do some reading up on putty as an option. Thanks for the input.

That is quite the bodywork. Being top heavy is going to be a much bigger issue for that yeti than locked diffs. The 'spooled' front diff is indeed a problem for the axles, but try the 1M fluid and see how you like it. I've got a summit, and the diff from the summit isn't going to fit in the yeti nose, then there is the issue of interfacing the output shafts to the yeti axles. There was a thread (since deleted) in the bomber section where someone was attempting to fit a summit diff in a traxxas slash front end, but it never came about. Typically the issue is turning radius, and for that I added rear steering to my yeti. For crawling and trail walking this is an excellent addition. Also, consider adding some lead ballast in the nose to keep the wheels on the ground when crawling. Last edited by DavidH; 04-08-2018 at 04:48 PM. |

That's pretty cool...... I was hoping that an underdrive rear would help with the steering issues... still bench building and doing research so who knows were it will go. How does the 1M fluid compare to putty? |

Make sure you clean out as much as possible of the silicone fluid. This stuff comes out fairly easy if you don't like it.

Looks like that kit only disconnects the longer axle side from the differential, not creating an open diff, but a one side only drive. Could be wrong, I don't know Chinese and I'm looking at the pics on a small screen Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk |
