Default Shock building question

Yeti kit, building shocks. The rear shock will only compress at max about 2/3 of the stroke, is that normal? The fronts seems to compress like 7/8ths or so. What could I have done wrong (if anything)? You are supposed to fill it to the max with fluid, yes?

no, you're supposed to bleed it. unscrew the cap so it's barely on, compress, tighten, wipe oil off. some people like to leave some extra spring in their shocks by not completely bleeding them (so you have rebound to 1/2 when you let go), I like them to stay compressed.

Thanks. So if I understand what your saying I start with the piston all the way down. Then loosen the cap some, slide the piston all the way up (bleeding some fluid), and then tighten?

In addition to the above, there are many visual guides available. Just Google for "rebuild rc shocks'.

A good one...: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jtYjET8-sw
