The boy got his homework done early so we got some more done tonight. Front shocks need some stiffer springs and the rear heavier oil. But I’ll take care of that issue. The tires are too small, go figure. But I am going to pick up some regular 2.2s, add that to the list with the ESC. Cage is all together though! These things look so cool, even without a body.

And tada! Hopefully we can paint this weekend.

It’s taken all day but it’s almost done. The boy helped with about 60% of the painting. Which was more than I’d hoped for. I taped it last night then he helped with the silver and the green throughout the day. I finished up with the purple. I’m still working on the roof. Will be ready to do the screw on pieces and the stickers tomorrow.

The devil is in the details as they say.

I decided to have a little fun with paint!

I had just enough silver left to spray an exo radiator I had on hand. Then I mounted it to the back of the cage below the lights with zip ties. Not fancy, but it works.

Then I did some hand painted details. I used some chrome paint to paint the fuel cell. Used some thinner to give it a bit of a tarnished look.

I used the same chrome for the head of the fire extinguisher, and red for the body.

i would mount the radiator on the lower position. Cause now nobody could see the nicely painted fuel cell.

My solution

I thought about that, but I do like the look of it where it is. Lol

It’s all good, my paint job isn’t as nice as yours. If I did that I’d definitely want to show it off!

We painted the drivers heads last night. Had JUST enough purple to get it done.

I decided to hand paint the motocross helmet he chose.

Success!

We finished up the body. Now just waiting on the ESC and tires.

He’s not happy about it or anything.

Looks like he hated every minute of it.

That's definitely a rig that he should be proud of, and time that neither of you will forget.

That’s what I’m going for. I’m wheelchair bound so I’m somewhat limited on things that I can do with them. But this was something that I’d hoped one of them would pick up so that we could do it together. Hopefully this hooks him. Lol

Powerrrrrr!!!

I got my Mamba X today. Set up the ESC tonight. Though I couldn’t get the B link to work. I’ll email castle to see if I can’t get some help there. Runs great! Can’t wait for the boy to have some fun after soccer.

And yes, I just bought some stock tires and wheels. Not the best but they will work for now. Hopefully he will let them last a while. Lol

Nice. Make a picture if he drives it. Your boy will have a bright smile in his face, that's what happens to me everytime if i drive my little Monster.

Have an eye on the method rims, my kit rims broke caused by torque. U can find the Pics in my thread. Which foams do u use?

Will do!

I’m going to try and prolong the plastic with some VP hubs and I’m going to get some CI DD foams as well. Right now they are all stock and the foams are way too soft. Not so much a problem when he’s running it on 2s. But when I break out the 3s I don’t want to tear anything up.

I ran the stock kit wheels & tires for a while. With CI Deuces Wild foams they're a fun tire. They don't grip like a crawler tire, but they're a giod all around tire. I wouldn't bother with the stock foams though. The truck will always be on its lid.

All smiles this afternoon. Despite the cold.

Look forward to taking him somewhere with some actual terrain.

Deuces wild put in tonight. What a difference! It barely felt like there was foam in there before. Lol

It’s been a bit. The boys been having fun with his project bashing around. I already knew the shocks were going to give me problems so I’ve been searching for a solution that wasn’t going to break the bank.

I stumbled upon some ZD Racing 1/8 shocks on Banggood, $20 for a full set. Figured I’d give it a try. The quality is good for the price and they seem like they’ll work pretty good. The rears are a direct fit, but I think I’m going to have to limit the travel on the fronts a bit with some fuel tube.

I drilled out the front shock tower holes to 4mm for easier mounting. Probably going to have to get an aluminum one for more strength when the plastic breaks, but this was more of a test than anything. Hopefully it’ll last a little while.

So I finally figured out some springs that’ll work and get the ride height down so the boy isn’t rolling it every time he turns. I pulled the springs off my Arrma buggy and they’re perfect!
