| CreationFab Delrin AX10 Tubes =NEW STYLES= *NOW TAKING ORDERS* I have began production on these delrin tubes. They're made to cut the end off where the stock chub slides on, and then they go in to the edge as you can see in the pic. You then can put XR knuckles, chubs, and stock length shafts on the front giving you more steering, wider track width, and stronger inner axles. EDIT6-25-12 Please see the below link to purchase: CreationFab - CreationFab Parts Delrin Tubes. WIDE Splined: $35 WIDE Un-Splined: $25 STOCK WIDTH Splined: $35 STOCK WIDTH Non-splined: $25 Added 5-29-12: I will now be offering these tubes pre-installed into a housing for an extra $25 for those that don't have the tools or know how to do the mod. I can also include The following for the extra price of the parts installed! Chubs Knuckles Universals Tie Rod WIDE Tubes. Meant for stock length XR universals: STOCK WIDTH Tubes. Meant to keep your stock width, but give you the option to add caster. The un splined version is meant to keep AX10 knuckles/chubs/shafts. I will also add pics of the splined version as soon as I can. Splined will also be meant for the XR chub and knuckle mod. You will have to cut down your inner axle shafts if you use these with XR10 universals. Instillation process is the same. See post 2 below for instructions to install: Newest stock width splined: You only cut some of the stock ears off. Leave 3mm on. This keeps the housing from spreading on you. See the below picture. | Re: CreationFab Delrin AX10 Tubes Updated 4-22-14 I figured these instructions were out of date by quite a bit, so here is the latest and greatest! Besides basic RC tools, these are really the only tools you need to do this. A dremmel, drill, #40 drill bit, and some vice grip pliers. The instructions are the same for the non splined version, you just dont need to adjust any caster. First thing you need to do is trim off the un-needed material from the end of the axle housing. I have highlighted in gold what needs to be removed. You will be removing about 1/8"(3mm) off the end, then shaving most of the rest off. On the outside, I recommend shaving off the highlighted areas a little at a time, then test fit the tube until it is tight. This will aid in keeping the housing from separating. Youll want to remove ALL of the bearing stop(also highlighted on gold) before you can test fit, and start shaving the outside down. You can use a dremmel, bench sander, band saw.... whatever you need to remove the material. I use a band saw to cut the 3mm off the end, bench sander to sand the outside down, and a dremmel with a carbide burr to sand off the bearing stop on the inside Outside: Outside shaved: Inside: Inside Shaved: Once you have the housing shaved. Youre ready to install the tubes. The tubes now come with only 1 caster set screw hole. You put this on the BACK of the housing. I do recommend however, setting the caster manually. Drilling a precise hole into a round object isnt the easiest thing in the world to do. So the caster hole can vary a hair. If you use these holes to set your caster, please check you caster before you start drilling the other holes. The caster holes on the back of the axle: Now in this photo, you can see the caster is proper. Look at the chubs on the ends of the tubes. Notice how the ears of the chubs on both sides appear to be identical. If on one side, you can see more or less of the furthest chub ear, then adjust until they are even. Once your caster is where you want it, take your vice grip pliers, clamp 1 side of the axle at a time, and drill your holes. I marked where you want to drill holes to install hardware in gold. Once you have all the holes on 1 side done, install the screws, double check the caster hasnt moved, then do the next side. Make sure when you drill the holes, and install the screws that you have all 4 screws that hold the center of the axle together(around the ring and pinion) in and tight, and the pliers clamping at the end. This will help the screws start properly, and keep the housing from wanting to separate any Hole locations marked in gold: You can see here that the pliers clamp all the gap out of the housing. There is a trick to the angles needed to drill the holes. For the top of the housing, drill slightly towards the center of the housing. If you drill straight in, at the angle the existing holes are pointing, the drill bit will wonder outward. This will prevent the screws from keeping the housing tight. Also, drill at a high speed with light pressure. Let the drill bit do the work In this picture(sort of hard to capture) it shows the angle that the 4 inner most screws need to be drilled at. I hope that is enough to explain what I mean right. All the hardware installed: Last thing you need to do is get the axle under your rig, put on your chubs to set your caster where you want, then drill holes into these neat chub windows to keep the chub on. Got my set in today. Decided to start on the rear axle first to cover what shaft & lockout combo will work since WK straight shafts are hard to come by. THAT & the pair of XR chubs I was gonna use grew feet and moved out. Installing these are simple. Just like installing normal beef tubes, except you need to remove the chub flange. Then fit the tubes and drill them. One hole on the face side, and one hole between the axle tabs. I suggest using zip ties to keep the case halves closed tight on the tubes. This will help ensure alignment of the tubes & cases when you drill. Here's a complete rear axle. XR lockouts & 2 XR short side shafts are the ideal setup IMO. One side did need a shim, but otherwise it's spot on. Hex to hex is 8.25" with the thin SCX hex. When I have time, I will try Wraith lockouts/shafts to see if other combos work. At this time, no AX & XR combo fits. |
