Default Bulldog Berg Gear cases

ClassiCut CNC Customs presents :

Bulldog Berg Gear cases

These cases were designed to work with stock Berg tubes and Berg compatible tubes like RcBro, Dlux, and other similar tubes. The front motor mount has been moved back to allow more servo room and the rear motor mount has been moved closer to the axle to allow more clocking and still keep the weight low. The gear mesh has been improved over stock cases and the Delrin housings slide over rock easier than the stock aluminum. The included upper link mounts have three adjustable mounting holes to adjust the upper link length depending on your own needs. The case cover is constructed from 2mm carbon fiber and all necessary bearings are included as well as stainless hardware.

Price is $249 complete..... Shipped in the lower 48

PayPal address is barryjanzen At yahoo

First sales will start shipping out in early September

Will get some formal instructions up soon but for now just some pointers....

1. Install the internal screw for the front upper link mount before any gears go in.

2. The 8mm button head screws hold the short tube on...... No need for counter sunk heads..... Nothing can hit them and they add strength.

3. Check your gears for any burrs or wear.... The gears should run smoothly and quiet with no ticks or clicks. If they don't look for the issues.

4. Check the bearing fit. They should be a light snug fit. The locker bearing is particularly picky due to the thin race. If they are a tad tight take and wrap sand paper around a drill bit or wood dowel and lightly open the hole and check the fit often. Careful assembly will reward you with smooth running gears. The locker should be able to spin several rotations before slowing down if the bearing fit is right. However, do not get a loose fit... They will loosen the hole over time and destroy the case and gears. Shim the fit if needed to prevent this happening.

5. Because of the design of the case, the locker / axle tang will have slightly less overlap. In most cases this should not be a problem but check your setup. If need be material can be removed from the tube flange to increase the axle engagement into the locker.

6. Setting the gear mesh is simple. I mount the motor and leave the screws just snug. I plug up my battery and start the motor spinning. I use dig or rear burn to isolate the motor I am working on. I rotate the motor so that the mesh is too tight and slowly move it as I listen for the sound the change. I set mine so it just starts to free up and the whine goes away. I then tighten the lower motor screw and then stop the motor and stick the hex wrench through the provided slot and tighten the inner motor screw. Works a charm for me.....

Update..... I have stopped including the rear upper link mount unless requested by the customer. I don't think anyone has used them and I didn't either.... Just to prevent confusion here is a picture of what I did on my truck. The hole spacing also allows any stock mount to work as well..

Nice looking product. I have two requests please.

Would you please post the weigh of your fully assembled case minus bearings, gears and link mount/link mount hardware vs an assembled stock berg case (no link mount, gears, bearings).

Would you please post an image of your inner (motor mount) case half (Carbon plate and delrin surround) vs a stock inner case half. Please place them on a flat surface, belly down, end to end so we can get an idea of motor spacing vs axle, axle position vs lower margin of case etc.

Cheers,

Joel

Joel,

I put my cases on the scale as requested.....

My stock case with link mount is : 57.1 g

My front case with link mount is : 43.0 g

My rear case with link mount is : 37.2 g

I wasn't going for weight savings with this design as the primary goal but they are. My main goal was for many other reasons already stated.

On the rear case, can link mounts be put on both sides of the case?

I am sure that you could..... The mount could be placed on either side because the holes are the same....I could even include am extra mount if that would help. I am sure they have other uses that people will come up with ... Lol

I meant, using two mounts.

It looks like it's possible since I see bolt heads on each side of that rear gearcase. What do the bolts thread into? Can we get a few pictures of the insides?

I got it now.... Went back and edited the post... Lol

The two holes go all the way through. It is threaded to 3mm and the bolts on the left just hold the cover on and fill the holes. They are just 8mm long. The mount hardware threads into the other side with 16mm long screws but could be changed as needed.

They just bolt together like the stock cases.

Good AM,

How wide is an assembled case (in "0.001")? Are they exactly the same width as a stocker where the axles mount?

Cheers,

J
