Pro4 in a Ultra 4 car that has the snot beat out of it was the test car. Zero problems for almost 2 months now? He wore thru the axle housing by using it so much but the bearing mod and gears are solid.

2x modded housings ordered! Thanks Erik... B-)

Edit: I blew up 2 od gear sets in mine, before the power and before the bushings.. not enough mesh on the R&P teeth to hold up to power.. IMO..
Thanks man!

I am finally home so I will get kickin and get your order out ASAP.

I would guess so? I have a bunch of housings that I am going to look at such as the VP stuff so I will throw a SCX stock housing in and see how that works out too.

The great news is that these are in stock again.

The bad news is that the VP nor the SCX10 axles can accommodate this mod.

Erik is there enough meat on the VPs to do anything? Like a 12-14mm outer?

Vp in my opinion failed on their housings. They copied a molded plastic part and machined it in aluminum. They really should have modified it to handle bigger bearings from day one.

I am guessing that you could do a smaller bearing on both the SCX and VP housings.

The VP was so very close that I think the exact point where the bearing went was 16mm. It was almost held together by the paint but I knocked it off with my finger.

The question is: If you do a 14mm bearing, is 1mm wall thickness enough? I would say there is a good chance, but it would need to be tested. 12mm would give a 2mm wall thickness which should be good but is 12mm vs a 10mm worth the time? Maybe, but it would need to be tested.

On some shortcourse trucks going from the 5x10 to the 5x11 bearing was tons better. Dynamic and static load bearing was more than double iirc. Of course at some point there would be diminishing returns.

Are you replacing both inner and outer?

Or is he leaving the some of that extra stickin out some to take up and Get Rid of all the usual slop from the gear mesh!? (if its a 5x16x5)

Yes, but I didn't want to give away his secret, "Gears are setup so they do not spin freely and feel gritty. Testing has shown this is the best setup for durability."

I'm trying to determine which bearings to order for the Vanquish housing:
5x13x4 or 5x14x5

Name: vps04301.jpg

Looking at the Vanquish pics... 11mm stock, it appear to have 1mm crown to hold the stock outer bearing that extends inside towards the inner bearing, so should at least hold the 13mm, perhaps the 14mm, but that pushes the pinion towards the ring 1mm. IF ONLY I were home with the parts rather than here in the sandbox... trying to gather everything and have it ready for my upcoming 2 weeks R&R.

Yeah, I do a 5mm thick bearing.

Either bearing youre looking at should do the trick, just set the depth as you go along.

Mine showed up yesterday.... man those bearings are beefy!!
Going to be a huge improvement in durability. Im so impressed that Im ditching my brand new Vanquish housings to run these housings.
Now im going to have to order a set for my boys Wraith too.
Thank you Erik!!

Btw Erik... What do you recommend for the outer with your housings? Bearings or Traxxas bronze bushings?
Thanks,
