Gotcha covered!! Mounted up a 550, castle 540 non sensored, and a novak ballistic tonight to check for clearance!!

fully compressed

Here's full droop with a JC Auto Designs CMS kit

And full compression

And here's another rig showing the stock location of the motor vs. the new location of the motor! here it is clear the advantage the center of gravity will give you!

I don't think the clearances are a problem. It'd be easy to fabricate a bracket to move the motor mount above the chassis rails.

.
That would lift the motor up! Not my idea of a great fix! I would use offset rod ends or a bent link to gain clearance. Even a smaller diameter drive shaft like a junfac !

This is a great idea, plus you get extra sorcca scale points for a functional transfer case! I'm all about low COG on my rigs so this is definitely in my parts que

Judging by that last picture the motor would end up at the same height as in the original position. If you were to raise the motor mount above the chassis rails. Still not very high and still behind the front axle. Not an ideal solution but not a bad one either.

But as your pictures show this is not needed to fit a 550 motor.

This just keeps getting better and better.

Nice setup ! Think there would be room to also lay what's left of the tranny on its side ? Some of the stuff in my 4 sale ad needs to go so I can get one of these !

Here you go.....

Here are a few shots
you can see thr side mounted tranny, an overhead shot, pic of my ride hieght and an innterior shot showing I didnt need to cut the interior up or raise tje body sky high to prevent cutting the interior.
This is also a custom chassis built by toyzuki long before the motor plate was designed and the mount was easily modded to fit

Glad there is room for the 550 motors. I will be placing a order in the near future.

I'm not sure I'm following your question. Replacing my setup with a GRU will accomplish the same thing but without having the ability or range of spur and pinion options. It's been done 1000 times and works.

If your talking about stacking a GRU in conjunction with my setup it would depend on the GRU and I don't really see a gain. You would have to use a GRU that is offset to lift the longer unit up away from the drive shaft thus defeating the purpose of lowering the motor weight down. Also adding a GRU would space the motor further to the rear going against the purpose of the product. If your trying to achive super low speeds and gobs of torque, I would suggest running my setup with a very high wind motor like a 75t. Then you get the benefit of the design moving the weight fwd and down but have the super low speed that your looking for!

hmmm....ok!
the only thing i can think of here is where now with your setup which is badasss... is now you are forced to mount the battery at the rear.
All that weight cant be good in the rear now could it?

I guess if your still running the huge stick pack, but most of us run a smaller lipo. You can fit a 1500mah 3s up front next to the servo, but I put a 2200mah 3s under the trans where the motor used to be to keep all my weight low and centered. On a short wb rig like hotwheels I mounted a 2200mah 3s to the passenger slider.

Even if you run a stick pack I'm sure I'd find a way to get it down on the passenger slider. I'll grab one of my race batteries tonight and find you a solution!

thanks!!
and yes, i use 2s stickpacks which are hardcase (SpeedPacks)
so i dont really want to go out and buy a CMS/Panhard plus a new battery just for this thing. No disrespect intended....

You could always build your own cms and 3 link mounts.

None taken lol. My part can't be for everyone! That's my favorite part about this hobby, knowing that no 2 trucks at the comp are going to be built the same!

On the other hand I'm sure that if I handed you my radio you'd be ordering a lighter, easier to distribute weight, 3s lipo in a hurry! Getting the battery out of the stock location and volting up will help your truck perform without even messing with the motor!

Even though I'd love to sell product I understand you can't throw that many changes at a rig without having a thick wallet and nothing better to spend it on!

Good call! I meant to mention that cms brackets are in the works and soon I'll beable to offer it as a package! 4 scale points for the case and 5 for the cms. Plus it should make it easier to purchase a motor mount when the required cms is an option! There are plenty on the market that work but I'm a simple and cheap kinda guy so I make my own. Profit from my little hobby business will be reinvested to create the next little goodies!

Got my hands on an rc4wd cms kit last night (thanx Alpine4x4) and installed it on the g6. I had to use an extra rod end ball to space the upper link away from the spur gear but it works! One more cms kit tested
