I wondered if it was conductive myself... I did a search and basically is says carbon fiber alone IS conductive, but when it is sealed in a plastic resin epoxy it doesn't conduct electricity.

In the couple years I sold the CF motor guards, before your started.. I think 3 instance's pop in my mind..

Mine, when I put me motor's in and thought the comm and brush dust sparked.. Just a quick fizzle and puff of smoke.. Nothing major..

MRCcrackhead.. Was losing power. He put a 540 motor guard on a HH 400 puller and all 4 motor wire tabs where wrapped in CF..

And one other small comm/brush dust fizzle..

Other then MRCcrackhead, the other 2 where when I started making them before I worked my way into the cut I use now and mainly what Barry(you) uses..

I make it standard practice to bend my motor wire tabs in, to start with.
The tabs will scratch the inside of the guards and the CF will conduct..

Nothing a thin layer of super glue or something wouldn't fix.
Just keep the guard only touching positive or negative when mounted..

I actually did an experiment, I used a multimeter to measure the resistance of the CF, I found that when measure on the shiny surface, the resistance is non-measurable (non-conductive) most likely due to the clear coat. I then measure the cut surface, and with the probes about 1 cm apart, I got 60 ohm. In other word, when you have full noise of 3s battery, you probably loose 0.2A. Not really a biggie I guess. The resistance get larger as the distance increase.

Sorry.. Been detailing 2 cars today I now have a dealership sending me cars steadily. Also went to the hospital in the afternoon to have my knee cat-scanned. And Yes a few people have bought these guards and modded them to fit tightly on their puller motors. If it was up to me...I would be web wheeling all day. By the way I dont know why they call it a cat-scan they dont use it to scan any cats.....Weird eh?
