Almaden Hills : We've been going there for years. Good spot, very large, not a lot of trails really, but awesome climbs great spot to test out a comp rig, decent traction.

I do want to say since I've been crawling at these spots longer than most, please don't litter. Since crawling exploded with Axial's entry into the market the amount of litter I see at these places has grown. It gives all a bad name.

NAME: Hellyer Park

WHERE: Hellyer Park, San Jose, Hellyer Ave and Hwy 101

HOW TO FIND: Park in the parking lot nearest the lake, pay machine did not work so I think it's free. Just a spot to take a stroll along the lake. I just thought the rocks were cool. Un-locked the summit and chased some birds, hey! the park is ghetto anyway! Had to clean the bird s**t off
my tires though.

HISTORY: Went there as a kid to feed the ducks right in front of the no feeding the wildlife sign:twisted:

I went to Leland High from 83-87. We called that spot Greystone. Didn't have any cool rc vehicles up there at the time but we hung out there a lot. Since there are too many places that could be classified as "Almaden Hills", I like Greystone or Goodrich quarry.

Too bad my other hang out back then got snatched up by the golf course above Almaden lake park (Coleman and Almaden expressway) . If you google that area and look at the rocks on the golf course's property, you will cry that you will never be able to legally RC there. We called those rocks "skull rocks". Maybe a night run after they close? :twisted:

I think Greystone is a better name for it. That spot is killer! there are bmx jumps up there, looks like some kids are working on it, I found a shovel there too. I might take my HPI Blitz there. Alot of brush though, couldn't find an easy way to get to the upper rocks to the left of the high voltage towers.

At one time, it was not as overgrown on the path to access that area. I mostly see people practicing their rock climbing and even more crazy, their rock jumping over there. I saw some HS aged boys jumping across gaps that were at least 20' across to a lower rock...All that after they burned a huge bowl...:afro:

Where: martin road, bonny doon, california
how to find: if your starting from highway 1, drive four miles up bonny doon road you turn right on martin road. Park just before the fire station. walk up he road about 200 yards. And you will see numerous trails heading to the top. they all connect pretty quickly so take any one.
Class: scaler heaven. Some comp stuff. I just remember it being alot more fun the first time. This time i had to intentinally chose harder comp lines.

History: people have been going here for ages. Mainly at night to trip out on shrooms ect... only time i saw someone there during the day they were walking their dog. There was a big fire a couple years back so now you have to park in the spot i listed and some of the entrances say its an ecological reserve. Borland
 

Here are two spots that are right next to each other.

Name: first one is Borland/ the second one is.... umm... "that one place right past Borland"

Where: Green Hills road, Scotts Valley, California

How to find: I haven't been to borland in a while to cause they are building some houses (i think Im gonna try this weekend. they cant work that site every day.) the second spot is easy. it is the first thing you will see as you approach a business area.

Class: comp and mrc

History: i don't know if its legal or not. Never been talked to at either one. most people driving by just got off work and don't really car about anything but getting home.

YOu might be trespassing at the 'borland' spot that i dont have a pic for. It was one of the best hangouts when i was in highschool. There was an constant mud pit even in the summer. Rope swings, bike jumps, a couple 4x4 trails and hillclimbs, a sketchy zip line. all that fun stuff. but now they are developing it. atleast they brought on some boulders :flipoff:

Right on 8) I've been meaning to scout very close spots to home, even though they are small. You never know when just want somewhere close by when your short on time.

Ya borlanld it just my convient spot ill stop by before or after work. I thougt i would include it because my back it facing highway seventeen. So almost everyone visiting santa cruz drives right by it.

I was there a few days ago in the evening and some one rolled up. I thought he was going to kick me out. It turned out to be the owner of the building. We got to talking and i let him drive mine. I think he is gonna get one for himself: mrgreen:

NAME: Greystone

WHERE: Almaden hills, Boulder Mountain Way near Almaden EXP and Camden ave

HOW TO FIND: park on the street then head on up the left side of the boulders. The first set of boulders is trashed, but good. Then head up the steep trail to the next set. Trails are scattered all over, weaving between the rocks. Lots of brush. The brush got too thick for me to check out
the other boulder set to the left closest to the golf course, maybe I'll try another path to get there next time. To the far right, also Some kids are digging out death defying bmx jumps there, they even left a shovel. Nice view of the valley too8)

CLASS: comp and plenty of scale

HISTORY: looks like kids hang out there and party, get messed up and then take a hike up the trail to do drunk rock climbing

Here is a few spots around SCC I have found.

NAME: shoreline

WHERE: La Avenida st, Mountain View, ca, near Shorline blvd at Stevens Creek trail

HOW TO FIND: well first I would like to give credit to Gardenwelder for finding this spot. You can get off on N Shoreline blvd from 101 and head north toward shoreline and make your first available right on Pear ave, then another right on Inigo way, left on La Avenida, and park at the end. just head right on the trail for a small walk and you will see the first waterfall. The second waterfall is further up, a little harder to get to, and it's almost identical. Small spot, but if your near, worth it.

CLASS: some comp and some scale

HISTORY: new spot so no history, you get an audience from people walking by on the trail.

Thanks for the reminder crawlitreal, the company I worked for a LONG time ago did all of the sandbag rip-rap work along those creeks in Mt. View. I know all of those sandbags very well:lmao:. I have to check out the area again.

thanks for building that. :ror: I actually used the concrete sandbags to step down into that.

sweet finds, but are there any good out-door areas without water near them?? i dont want to accidently tip over my crawler and then get it killed! :(

name: Shoup Park Garden House

where: Near Los Altos Downtown, close to Foothill Expressway, right near Lincoln Avenue

How to find: From 280, get off onto El Monte, Go down towards Los Altos Downtown (away from Foothill college), Then turn left at Foothill express way. Go down till you hit Main street and Take a left. Then you will hit Unviersity and take the left. You should see a church right around there. On your right you will see Shoup Park

class: Both.

history: not sure if its illegal, but alot of little kids are there.

rating: 6-8 stars (not many obstacles, but enough to have fun)
