NAME: Little Yosemite

WHERE: Sonol Regional Wilderness, Milpitas, Ca. near Calaveras Res.

HOW TO FIND: Don't drive up Calaveras rd at Milpitas(takes longer unless you want a good view of Calaveras res.) From 680, exit Calaveras Rd and head south into the Sonol Valley. Make a left on Geary Rd and you will head on down to a pay booth (yeah this one will cost you 5 bucks) ask for a map, very helpful! then keep right on the main road till you reach the parking lot at the end. Theres no un-authorized vehicle access after that parking lot on Geary Rd so you are going to hike for about a mile more. Just take the small side trail on the right about half way down. it runs along the creek where you will eventually see more and more rock. I only went as far as the brush lets you go, correct me if theres more, theres a few lines on the other side of the creek as well.

CLASS: Mild comp, tons of scale trail

HISTORY: Suggest to stay in your car at that parking lot until the rangers leave or stick your rig in a back pack. The sign at the trail-head says no model rockets or airplanes, but nothing about rc cars.

aHHHHH XR-10

looks awesome!"thumbsup"

nice find, howd you even find it? just randomly? lol

crawlitreal 10-20-2010 01:13 PM

Quick tip: trim down your quotes(backspace) or try not to quote and just do a regular post, this thread has long posts and takes forever to load. Each page I think has 20 posts no matter how big or small.

If you search around, you'll find the nor cal google maps link, they are all well known locations. I'm just making it simpler to find and see what's there.

Its listed here along with many others....

crawlitreal 03-02-2011 12:38 AM

hi all, it's been a while. I recently moved so I havent had much time to do much scouting lately. I finally have a back yard so I will soon make a little addition to this thread;-) just need some rocks. i'm accepting rock donations or if anyone knows where to find some good sized rocks, just let me know with a pm. I might try experimenting with some stucko too.
If anyone knows of a non-coast spot in the south bay that is not listed in this thread, fill free to add it here. Also, if any conditions change in theses locations, let us know. I'll also work on updating them as well. Having a thread like this really helps out the noobs.

MRCCRAWLER1.9 03-02-2011 12:47 AM

Glad to hear from you again dan, hopefully you didn't move too far away from the south bay. You might be able to find some rocks near creeks. I got a few rocks from the beach.

Greystone, someone cut down alot of brush according to brownie, so there is a whole new section open in the back. Maybe like an extra 2min hike from the first boulder you see there.

Linda, always muddy like the norm.

Sheldons upgraded their course twice. The volcano island and a new one on the drift track.

That's all I know off the top of my head.

crawlerpillar 03-05-2011 11:55 PM

Hey crawlitreal here is a few more spots to check out. I know its not in the format you want. But, oh well. Enjoy!"thumbsup" Arrows at Bayview is nice for me cause I can stop by on my commute home. Right off Hwy 17, then a 2 minute walk.

Link not iPhone friendly, i was able to see the area, but no pin point. Weird tho, all apple devices like to go strait to the google map app first before anything else rather then the regular online google maps. The regular google maps page i think is still too much for apple to handle. The mobile page version seems to work, but hard to use. Then the google map app on apple doesn't save places for public to see. Is arrows and bayview the nearest intersection?

Yeah that rock has a cool little challenge on it, if I remember, I think I was able to make it almost to the top with my summit.

No it is just the name I gave the place. Cause there was arrows painted on the trail and when you get to the crawl spot you can see the Monterey bay. Exit Glenwood Dr. (1/2 mile from the summit) go up the hill and park in the dead end. The crawl spot is a man made spill way thing with rocks and cement formed together. The bottom of the spillway is only about 30' off highway 17. Not to worry, you are well protected from traffic there. "thumbsup"

crawlerpillar 03-07-2011 09:23 PM

Yeah Moon Rocks looks like alot of fun for scalers. I may try to go there this weekend. If so I will get pictures.

Anna Jean Park in Soquel

Just found this spot yesterday, and went crawling this morning; lots of fun. Anna Jean is part of the Santa Cruz County Parks system, and is located right off of Old San Jose Road, about 0.5 miles East of the Soquel Dr./Porter St. intersection, in the town of Soquel, just South of Santa Cruz. The park is right next to Soquel high school. Drive up the entrance, crest the steep hill (baseball/soccer fields on your right), and go to the end of the parking lot. There you'll see a median strewn with rocks; that's it. It's in the middle of the parking lot, so it's best to go on weekday mornings when there are only dog-walkers and not too many cars parked around the rocks. The place fills up with athletic kids in the afternoons, weekdays and weekends.

Best for crawlers and scale; it was perfect for my CR01.

Used to have a creeper but got bored with it. Now I'm gettin back into it with an scx10. A little bit of crawling mixed with some rock racing. What part of the bay are you from. My bro and I are always lookin for the same. The both of us are addicted to rc and don't really know any1 else to share the addiction with. LOL

I am in the south bay around 101 and capital expressway...I only know of scalers around here except for a few guys I haven't been able to hook up with yet....too many other things going on as well...I also race on-road at Norcal...usually twice a month...been trying to crawl the other times. I am so addicted...thinking of selling the other stuff and get a scaler or FOFF... Too many rc's not enough time 8)

I hear ya man. 101 and capitol exp isnt too far from where my bro and I live. We're planning on hittin the little hammers spot once I get my scx10. Which should be today or Tuesday. He's got a brushless setup in his rig and a summit tranny. You might have seen his build thread already. Meatwad. We'll have to get together and get some triple action rock smashin. We also used to go to penetencia creek for crawlin when we both had our crawlers. Alum Rock park is also a good spot. Once we get up there I'll snap some pics and add it to this thread.

Good deal... I have my XR10 in pieces at the moment....look forward to some crawling...I'll have it back together soon...getting some new gears and a T1e chassis together

MRCCRAWLER1.9 07-03-2011 12:12 AM

maybe next week postclanker, I too have my xr in pieces for a rebuild, and some new gears, as well as busy with fixing up my mugen. as of now, money is the only hold back for me to pull the trigger on a new set of gears, but I got a 1.9 comp runner, if I'm desperate :)

wow you both are near greystone? if so, your lucky, that spot is sweet, just alittle creepy, because you never know If there's a wild animal behind the bushes.

Postclanker 07-03-2011 08:37 AM

Or a snake in the grass.
Hope you get your gears together soon MrcCrawler..I know we've been trying to gtg...it'll happen. At least we got some buzz going for now...haven't torn down the axels yet...maybe my stock gears aren't in too bad of shape and I can help you out

1beatjeep 07-03-2011 09:36 AM

I am up for a crawl next weekend .Or sooner

inkdaddy66 07-03-2011 10:17 AM

OK...Let me get a tally of the bay area crawler guys. Seems to be a lot more than I thought. Which is a good thing.

Tbolt meatclaws-talkatap

NorCal 2500HD 07-03-2011 10:26 AM

Anyone got anything goin on for Monday the 4th.... Ive spent my entire weekend tiling my kitchen and I need to get out of the house. Im thinkin about possibly hittin up the bean or pescadero state beach....crawling and surf fishing ......

Or I was thinking about Indian Rock Park in Berkeley.

MRCCRAWLER1.9 07-03-2011 10:28 AM

there are a lot of crawlers in the bay area, but I believe there are a lot more crawlers in the north bay, and more scalers in the south bay.

thanks for the offer postclanker, but I think id rather do the job once and get it over with since its a pain in the neck to open the diff, and then make sure you put the exact screw in the same hole, or else your gears are just asking to get chewed up.

Postclanker 07-03-2011 10:13 PM

Sounds like you're going to spend some $$$ on some RC4wd gears...I did get to change my front axel out today and replace the gears with RC4wd gears. Front gears were in great shape...all the clatter is probably coming from the rear...let me know if you change your mind MrCCrawler...I did feel the pain taking this down today...wouldn't want to make a habit of it.
Nice to see some chatter in the south bay. "thumbsup"

Postclanker 07-06-2011 02:08 PM

looks like I needed to order some other parts to go along with this front axel/rear axel mod with the Vanquish metal tops...they don't tell ya you need to have the shorter transfer gear shaft for the rear...or use a front mount instead of a rear mount... I'm still in pieces waiting on the new parts....probably race on-road this weekend...would rather crawl...

I'll be ready next weekend 7/16-7/17
