12650 Tallent Ave, San Jose, CA 95127

Here's another local spot. Located in the San Jose foothills. At the base(that's what she said)of Alum Rock Park. I will upload some pics here in a few and some video too.
There's alot of elevation change here. Which is nice. Uphill trails. Dirt piles, some are hard to climb cuz they're loose dirt. Some rocks here and there. At the creek and other spots. As well as some fallen trees to climb on.

Good ol penetencia creek.
I think we're all 1 short of a 6pack at one time or another. I'm waiting for some parts too. Was out there at the creek last night...pulled my stock tranny for a summit dinky trade. Waiting on the summit tranny and a set of rovers. I'm SOL for now.

Yeah good times at the crick. Wanna check out mini hammers again as well. Anybody know if there's more to it than the incline by cheltenham(sp?) road? I walked up to the drainage ditch but that was it.

You said drainage ditch! Haven't been there yet... some guy ran the journey without me. We gotta hit alum rock park next trip.

mine is actually upright again...FINALLY got the axel mod done and the rc4wd gears are set...want to adjust the rear links a bit, solder up the motors and do a bench test...should be good to crawl this weekend...

Postclanker 07-11-2011 11:33 PM

Sweet video...looks like a challenging place to crawl also...bench test went great...feels stout and strong in the driveway anyway...want to find some rocks. I've done a lot of mods to this since my last crawl....if you get the chance check out the vanquish aluminum axel top thread...I think I'm famous in there

crawlitreal 07-12-2011 12:02 AM

Thanks guys for adding spots, havn't been to some in a while so if any changes are found in any of them, feel free to post them. I'm gonna post another spot here tonight thanks to Gardenwelder. He found a row of large rocks with a few good lines on them just off Almaden Expy in the Guadalupe river. I checked out the spot with him the other day and it looks like if the river dies a bit more, you would be able to hit up more scale lines down there.

NAME: Guadalupe River at Almaden

WHERE: North bound Almaden Expressway and Wren Dr. San Jose, Ca.

HOW TO FIND: If you come from the south side, head north on Almaden Expy. and turn right on Wren Dr, which is like a mile before you hit Hwy 87. If you come from the north, you have to make a u-turn at Koch Ln and then turn rt on Wren Dr. Park right there as soon as you turn right. The no name park has some rock scattered along the paths. The large row of rocks in the back have a few good lines on them. The rest is unexplored and looks like it has potential for some scale if the river dies down and the brush gets cut. Good for comp rigs at the large rocks, you can find a few scale lines if you weave around them.

HISTORY: Looks like a new river restoration project. Lots of graffiti and it looks like kids party there at night.

After leaving work today....237 and McCarthy blvd. I saw a lot of rocks against the embankment of the jogger's trail...looked prime for crawling...will try to take some photos and post a link....or send them to crawlitreal so he can do it properly

Email me the pics. I can find the location and post the pics. Pm me for my email address. I'm trying to think of 237 and MCcarthy. Is it that jogging trail off to the right of 237 heading west?

Just read your WHOLE post. Ive seen that place many a times...never thought to go down there though.

Meatwad and I went out to the mini hammers today. Nice spot to bash and crawl. I'd go back out there. I liked it. Broke a c hub on the walk back to the truck. Time for aluminum upgrades. I was thinking of just macihining them myself but it may just be easier to buy em. We'll see what happens. I'll start some dimensioning and see how much time it will take to machine them.

Next...we're gonna hit alum rock park. There's a trail that starts at the end of penetencia creek rd. At the parking lot entrance to the park. off to the right is where the trail is. I'll shoot some pics and video while we're up there.

We've both got the summit/dinky conversion. Both running scx10s. Different setups but same basic setup...

Postclanker... I had a comp but it got boring. Too slow for me. So I came back into the scene with the scx and summit tranny. I've got kind of a rock racer type setup

Slow is good sometimes....but the speed demon in me comes out every now and then...the wraiths looked good to me for that very reason....I also like the scale look...hell, if I had unlimited money I'd have one of everything...but it's hard to sell off all the other stuff I have ....don't really want to part with it. My next purchase will be a scaler I think....might just have to be real fast though ;-)

made a course in my yard

hello, im new to rc crawling but over the past few days i built a course in my yard. so far I have just dug the area out and raked rocks out the way. i have about 20 mid to large sized rocks and a bed frame along with some other odds and ends to add to the course.

name: Empire

where: PM me via rc crawler forum.
I would like to invite people from the forum to come over and crawl. I'm hesitant inviting people over to my house so please be respectful.
Make sure to include your email address and phone number.

inkdaddy66 08-10-2011 02:38 PM

So does this mean you're invitingly sponsoring bay area crawlers onto your course?

Pathung 08-10-2011 07:56 PM

You need to dig a few ditches and build a few mud-pits!

Postclanker 08-10-2011 09:47 PM

Re: SF south bay crawl spots

I usually crawl at Lexington Res.
Exit hwy 17s at bear creek road. Loop around and get right back on 17n. Stay in that lane when gettin on the hwy. As it will bring you right to the Lexington exit. Follow the road until you come to the first parking lot on the right side. Park there. The rocks are down by the new boat launch.
