Santa Rosa and surrounding areas

Hey guys, as some of you know, Santa Rosa is where I grew up. Well, I have been thinking to buy a house in Fountaingrove, and have also been toying with the idea of building an indoor crawl spot in a warehouse on Piner road. What sort of numbers do we have for the local crawling scene there?

Would this be a decent business idea? Would any of you guys be interested in this?

Let's start this conversation, as I am really thinking hard about this.

Damn Kasey Fountain grove, that's baller status right there.:ror:

But hell yeah that would be pimp, there are many crawlers in this area.

Another crawl spot here in town would be sick. Our local comp spot gets boring after a while.

Post this thread up in the sonoma county crawler thread too."thumbsup"

I think you mean Chanate Road. I used to work on Chanate at that private school.

Well, as you know, home prices are dropping big time, so Fountaingrove is just the place to buy. Our apartment in Shenzhen is paid for and is worth about 550,000. So, we should find something no problem.

I will look for the Sonoma County thread. Thanks Shelby.

But an indoor course would work out real nice since our local comp club (nbrcc) runs during the winter, and people don't like driving in the rain.

There is also a little lake in fountain grove which is fun for scalers.

Yeah, my step dad used to fish that lake before it became illegal.

My mom is looking for some space, and will get me some prices etc. Some of you might know my mom's shop...if you are into guns. She has the only gun shop in town..over on Piner road.

Go for it. The closest indoor crawling spot near me is hobbytown in concord. Would be nice to have another spot to go to.

Go for it Casey!

You have a huge NorCal crawler base "thumbsup"

When do you think you would move out here? (if you do)

KC_JoNeS 04-21-2011 08:34 PM

Well, right now I am doing the market research, attempting to put together a business plan, speaking to local shop owners, looking for space and property, and looking for a home. This is all while my wife is trying to migrate her brokerage business stateside....so, at this point, I dont know when this could be feasible. I am really just touching the water with my toes to see what kind of temperature it is.

An indoor crawling spot in Sonoma County sounds like fun. I don't know if running it as a bussiness would work, unless you own the wherehouse and open up a hobby shop to go with it.

HobbyTown in Concord has an indoor course wich is free to practice on, small donation required only on friday night comps and 5 bucks for serious comps.

Now, the crawling scene isn't what it used to be in Nor Cal last year, comps went from 60+ drivers to 20-. It would probably work for all the old retiered local crowd that does not like to drive to the outdoor spots. And not many of them are that serious about it, it just got to competitive for them, I wish it was otherwise I enjoy RC driving not just crawling.

So if you really wanna do something like this I would recomend you mix it up a bit. There is a local RC race club The Sonoma County Groundpounders, they race in parking lots I am sure the wouldn't mind racing on an indoor carpet track. Or how about the most popular segment of RC hobby as of today, short course racing, I wouldn't mind beating on all of my three SC trucks on a medium sized off road track.

I think you could combine it all and make it an RC heaven.

Oh and also the LHS Jake's Performance Hobbies has been organizing indoor RC flying events.

I do not mean to discourage you, but on the other hand to encourage you by picking your brains a little bit. "thumbsup"
