I am down. Just search google maps "Rock City CA" I think the zip code is 94507. That's weird cuz I never new it was considered a real city!? Anyways it is a killer spot. Never crawled there but I have been probably 50 times. Huge sandstone formations and caves on the sides of them some dug out by native Americans. I can see alot of broken rod ends and axle housings for those of us darring enuf to climb the big tall rocks there. We should bring some gates for a few courses. I have about 20 road course cones I can bring.

saturday looks good only 20% chance of rain. i am up for any time, i think noon would be ideal. Mt Diablo charges a fee of $8 per car entering the mountain.

Not Native Americans. They are mines not caves when the whole mountain was mined for sand. East Bay Regional Parks took over and turned it into the park and closed a few of the mines but left a few open for the public. I lived on the ranch at base of the Antioch side.

Coal and White Sand
North of Mt. Diablo and outside the park in the Black Diamond Mines area, lignite coal beds in the Domengine Formation were the largest known and most extensively mined coal deposits in California. From the 1860's to the beginning of this century, the Mount Diablo coal field supplied coal to the rapidly expanding urban and industrial centers of the San Francisco Bay area. Finally closed as newer and cheaper energy sources were discovered, during its lifetime the mines produced approximately 4,000,000 tons of coal valued between $15 and $20 million.
At the base of the Domengine Formation exposed in the Black Diamond Mines Regional Park, there is a thin section of white sands called the "Ione" sands, a description carried across the Central Valley from major white sand deposits in the Ione Formation on the east side of the Valley. The sands appear to be continuous across the valley subsurface and of equivalent age. The white sands, that were used for making glass, were mined from two deposits in the area from 1920 until 1949 when they ceased operation.

taken from geology / mining page. all mining was done on the north side of the mountain between lime ridge and the back canyon trail (rear regency dr, in clayton)
