Exclamation SoCrawl's STEG-6 - Ontario, Canada




We here at SoCrawl are looking to bring some exciting events to Southern Ontario for 2014. With last years Crawlapalooza a smashing success we have decided to build upon this and make 2014 a year to remember in Ontario. We will be hosting our first ever Scale Trail Event, a G6 but we can't really call it that since there is only one real G6 and that is all Parker. :s_smile So to pay homage to the legendary G6 we will be calling it the 1st Annual SoCrawl.com Scale Trail Event. We will be loosely following the already established set of RECON rules but opening them up to allow everyone to feel comfortable in joining in.
Date: May 31st, 2014
Time: 9:00am Registration - 9:45am Drivers meeting - 10:00am Go Time.
Location: TBA in early May
Entry fee: $20
There will be 4 trophies awarded, 1st place overall, Best sportsmanship, Best Scale Rig and a mystery award.....




R.E.C.O.N. G6 Driver Guidelines:
Scale vehicle requirements:
1. Scale 1.9 Class: Must be 1/10 scale electric car/truck with a scale chassis. (No 2.2 comp chassis with a scale body) A scale chassis could be a MSD or a RC4WD or an Axial SCX-10 chassis i.e a scale chassis with 2 frame rails. 1.55 and 1.9 tires and rims only. Front bumpers are mandatory and must be wider than the chassis.

2. Scale 2.2 Class: Must be 1/10 scale electric car/truck with a scale chassis. (No 2.2 comp chassis with a scale body) A scale chassis could be a MSD or a RC4WD or an Axial Wraith etc. This is where you will enter your Wraith's, Wroncho's,custom Tubers..etc... 2.2 tires and rims only. Dualies and 6x6 will fall into this class as well. Front bumpers are mandatory and must be wider than the chassis.

3. 1.55, 1.9 or 2.2 wheels and tires. Tire may be name brand or knock offs, just as long as they resemble the real thing.

4. Vehicle must have at least 3 scale accessories. (I.e. jerry can, bed roll, cooler, shovel, winch, rock lights, ect.) This requirement may vary from G6 to G6 depending on what the event requires.

5. NO rear steer and NO dig.

6. A vehicle must have a tow strap and winch points. (I.e. Bumper, D-rings, or something to winch/strap off of.)

7. 2 Speed Transmissions are allowed in both classes

8. Waterproofing is not mandatory, but is highly recommended
Pretty simply rules really and I think it keeps it fair enough that everyone can fit in without being too over the top rules. With that being said I expect everyone to play nice and not try and cheat their way though. This is all about having fun....not pissing off your fellow crawlers to win a toy truck event.

R.E.C.O.N. G6 Stage Format:
When a driver starts, he/she is competing against the clock. A driver must navigate thru the gates in the order they are numbered and between the gates, even if winching is required. A penalty is given for hitting a gate or a boundary.

1. Finishing order will be determined by the over all accumulative adjusted time from start to finish.

2. Time bonuses can be earned by completing the optional skills sections.

3. Gates can range in distance. Battery changes may be performed as needed on a stage. Bring lots of batteries.

4. Drivers will start at specified intervals; if a driver catches up to a fellow driver, the driver that is being passed, must yield to the faster driver immediately. A driver cannot overtake another driver during a special skill section; the faster driver must wait at the start of the skills section until the slower driver exits said section.

5. There is no “Hand of God”. This means all recoveries must be done by using a winch. If the rig is unrecoverable via winching or using a tow strap off another competitor then the driver may use a "Penalty Winch" The definition of a "Penalty Winch" is that a tow strap is attached to the rig and pulled free by use of your hand. The G6 is designed for a driver to be a driver, not a boonie basher. If a driver does not have a winch and has to use the penalty winch; a 1 minute time penalty will be charged to that driver.

6. Pit Repairs -[No Penalty] – Every G6’er knows that sooner or later, no matter how much preparation went into their G-Ride, something is going to break. In the G6 Challenge, any breakage that happens on stage, must be repaired then and there. If the repair cannot be made on stage, then a G6′er may make a Pit Repair. Naturally, a driver may find a flat spot near the breakage spot that is out of the way of fellow G6’ers, that is perfectly ok, but if a driver needs to make the repairs in the pit, they need to head straight to the pits. After the pit repair has been completed, their driver must return to the spot where they removed thier scaler from the stage and continue. There will be no penalty when a driver removes his/her scaler from the stage for a Pit Repair. A driver’s time will not stop for Pit Repairs. A driver must finish with the scaler that they started with. No switching of scalers, if a scaler cannot be repaired, the driver must immediately inform G-Central of their DNF.

7. The running order will be G6 specific. It may be luck of the draw or running order may be assigned by the last G6 times.
Time Penalties:
Hitting a gate marker will result in a 1:00 min time penalty.
Hitting any stage boundary will result in a 5 min. penalty.
Using the penalty winch will result in a 1 min penalty.
**** Since there is a lot of questions around this. This is not a penalty for using your regular winch, we want to see creative winching as it adds to the scaleness. Deffinition of a Penalty Winch: Penalty Winch [3 Min+/-] In the case that there is not a competitor there to help you with a pull strap, or you do not have a working winch, then you may employ the penalty winch. The penalty winch is a scale tow strap, lanyard, or winch line that you would operate with your hand acting as another vehicle to extract your stuck rig. The idea is to act as though your hand is another vehicle and pull the stuck or rolled over vehicle out of its situation in a “scale manner”. You will mark down the use of the penalty winch down in the driver’s log book. It is always best to use an onboard working electric winch, or use a tow strap with the assistance from another competitor. Use of either of these methods does not result in a penalty.****

Time Bonuses:
Completing a time bonus section cleanly a driver will receive a 3 minute time bonus.
Time bonus sections will have a specific color boundary and have a stage gate at the beginning and end of the section, but may involve more than two gates.
Stage Gates:
A stage will be marked with gates. The gates are used to define a stage and the color of the gate will define the intended direction of the gate. A gate consists of two flags; on yellow and one red. The red flag is always on the passenger side of the rig, unless other wise noted. Stage markers will also be numbered as so you can make sure you are proceeding in the proper order.
A rig must drive between the stage gates and all 4 tires must be inside the stage gates for progression, even if winching is required to successfully clear the gate. There is no straddling a stage gate to progress.
A stage gate can only be driven in the intended direction! A driver CANNOT drive thru a stage gate and then reverse back through it to continue on the stage.
Special Skill Sections:
A special skill section will have boundaries and be marked by a specific color and signage.
A special skill section can be a task such as changing a tire and running the section using the spare tire or using a winch to perform a task. A special section can be driving in snow, ice, mud, water, and sand, up hill, down hill or in reverse.

How close to Ottawa do you think the location will end up being?

Certainly. The Yeti would of fit right into the 2.2 class (thats if you are running 2.2 tires) Be sure to be on the look out for all of next years events. This event was held last May and we had a good turnout of around 60 trucks.

just by reading the thread I have a yeti as well but it looks like it would be a good idea to add a winch, almost necessary I would say, no? And I assume that would go toward the three scale accessories. Thanks,
