Default ***New*** Cobalt Crawler 5 Chassis

Cobalt Crawler 5

  • * Designed around the Cobalt pullers and the Axial transmission
  • * Stock Axial lowers will achieve a 12 1/2" wheelbase running Axial axles
  • * Works very well with 4" to 5" shocks
  • * Side plates are .125" thick 6061 aluminum
  • * Cross members and skid are both 1/4" black delrin
  • * Plenty of options for adjusting your squat/anti squat numbers

All hardware included for cross members and lower links. The skid plate and cross members are as wide as the stock Axial braces,so if you want to add more support, the factory parts work perfectly. The skid plates come blank with a template for the Axial tranny pattern. With the use of a puller, you need to drill the pattern as the template is drawn. If not,the lower links may rub the end bell depending on how your suspension is set. With the use of a regular 540 can,the tranny can be moved around a bit putting the motor closer to center if you desire.

Here is my build thread with more pictures....Cobalt Crawler 5

I had a small batch made. There is currently 10 chassis kits available for sale. I have two on the way to my testers and am anxious to hear their feedback.

The price is $68.00 shipped within the US,USPS Priority Mail.

Wow, I really like your chassis! Those pullers are geting more and more popular everyday and its harder and harder to find a chassis that fit with them. I really like all the ajustability you can have. Looks like lots of space for electronics too! Love that skid... Wow, perfect for any ax10 out there. Great job and nice price!

I'm not doubting it (seeing as you're the one who designed it and is driving it) but how do you think it (being open) will hold up?

Steve wouldn't sell something he hasnt fully tested and put his word behind. Theres reasons why RCC made this guy a Moderator and why I made him one of my sponsored drivers. He puts his honest opinions into his work and if he doesnt like it, he will tell you.

Great job on the chassis Steve. I hope Eddie likes his little present in the mail!

Well, as long as he'd run it once, then we know it could hold to anything we can dish out.

Thank you Rocky for the kind words. I'm looking forward to testing your chassis as through as I've tested my own. You've put allot of work into yours and I feel it'll be a very nice set up. I'm kinda expecting it to get here any day now. We're having a comp at my place Sunday. I'm gonna try everything I can to get it together and run it like a rental car.

The 2 chassis's I tested with the first round was cut out of .090" aluminum. One was a little rough looking as I cut it out with a jig saw. The other was a SEVERELY hacked up Axial chassis. All the link mounts, shock mounts and the overall design was the same though. They did start to bend, but I had less cross bracing. After adding more, better cross braces, the bending nearly went away. As most chassis plates on the market are cut from .090" thick aluminum,I decided to use .125". That'll help add allot of strength. I've found with a set up like this, you get allot of strength from the cross braces. I made the width perfect for the Axial chassis spacers and factory upper links. Those are easy to find from our vendors or many LHS's. A guy can add as many braces as he sees fit. When the chassis plates are by themselves, not assembled, there is a tiny bit of flex to them. Once the kit is assembled,it's pretty solid. I'll be honest, there is a touch of flex in my rig as of right now. I've got to really FORCE it to make the chassis flex though. Doesn't seem to hurt anything, but I'm going to continue testing with more/less bracing to see if any ill effects come up. Keep in mind,I designed this to be a CRAWLER chassis, not a basher running a 5700 inrunner on a 6 cell lipo launching off sweet jumps.

Another thing, and some may have noticed. The delrin cross members have 5 holes drilled and tapped for 3mm hardware. The spacing between centers on the braces,is the same center to center for the link mounts, shock mounts or the holes on the back bone. This allows SEVERAL places,up or down, front to back that a guy can adjust the delrin plates to suit his set up and drive train.

Should be plenty of pictures in my build thread. If there's any certain part or a certain angle you guys wanna see,I can take more pictures.

Well,I have run it pretty hard and off some sweet jumps Not really being into the bashing much,I don't have any REALLY fast equipment, like motors and such. So far,I've run a 27t stock motor geared 18/81 on a 3 cell. Pretty quick and fun,but in no means is it a speed demon. It's faired very well so far and I do feel it'll handle some good abuse. It was designed for a crawler, not a basher.

This is one solid design. The chassis will accommodate a variety of setups. I currently have it setup with a Pede tranny homebuilt locker 3cell lipo 5cell receiver pack. With all this I still think this may be one of the cleanest builds I have done to date.

Great chassis excellent machine work and quality hardware. I look forward to putting up some good numbers this season with this setup.

Thank you for the kind words. I don't have a Pede tranny,so I never tried to see if one would fit. I'm glad to hear it fits in there nicely. I'm anxious to see how you set it up. Hope it works great for ya.

Get it dialed in for the 13th I'll have some DANDY courses set up for everyone up here.
