That was the least I could do for you as I had you waiting so long.

Thank you both for your patience.

Got a box today with a whole bunch of parts. Thanks Tomi.

One thing I wanted to check out was how compatible the AX chassis would be for a Losi conversion, should anyone not want to wait for the Losi production version.

In addition to the AX V2 chassis that just arrived, I previously had Tomi build me a one-off version of a proposed Losi chassis, with dimensions tweaked by myself to fit lower shorter shocks.

Comparing the two sideplates I think it is likely that the AX kit can be converted to a Losi motor/tranny. You would have to do custom milling of the skid to accept the Losi tranny, properly lowered. The only issue I see is that only a brushed motor would fit. Brushless motors have a full-length can which is longer than my HH handwounds. Overall length is the same, but the long cans will interfere with the front lower corner of the sideplate. Personally, I have both brushless and brushed motors for my Losi and find them both to work well. I wouldn't consider something like a Holmes or Brood brushed 25T to be a handicap. Not quite the torque of my Tekin ROC, but smoother down low.

Anyway, if you can customize a chassis without a lot of hand-holding, and have access to a mini mill, you can do a Losi now instead of waiting. Be aware you'll need slightly different link lengths which are documented on the Losi SuDu thread. I have pictures over there on what the skid plate needs to look like too. Note I'm not going to do this conversion myself...I already have my Losi chassis.

If you've never done anything like this before...better to wait for the finished product. Of course, waiting sucks.

thanks tomi front plate arrived just a small problem I found on my behalf I have to mount the electronic plate above the servo plate because of my setup it hit the drive shaft so ive have to raise it :o

@ RockMafia

Is it working well for you like that? Or would a slightly shorter electronics tray be a better solution?

With a level pinion gear output there should be just enough clearance for the driveshaft with the stock electronics tray.

I haven't received my electronics plate, so maybe this won't work, but:

I assume you attach the electronics plate below the servo using supplied spacers. Could you delete the spacers and just use screws with three nuts on each screw (over & under the plate)? Now perhaps you can put a bend in the middle of the screws so the plate starts off low at the front but angles upwards more parallel to the driveshaft.

I am nowadays not including the spacers as people have such different setups it is less likely they will be the correct length. On my own setup I have the electronics tray fastened right under the servo plate without spacers.

The type of drive shaft used and front axle pinion gear output angle are the important factors both front and rear.

I understand what you're saying about spacers Tomi. My point is just to use bent screws to you can start the plate low and then angle it to match the driveshaft. I've done that on other rigs, will probably do it on this one. Lower = better.

Tomi
I've kinda left steering for last because I wanted both plates here to choose between and the second is due any day now.

Has anyone actually done a servo and battery under the option plate? Is there a thread on the rig, or at least pics? My initial mock ups are showing a lot of interferences.

FWIW, mine has the XR steering conversion.

I know at least Harvo and RCBros are using the plate I originally made for Harvo, which has the servo mount under the plate.

BTW. You may notice that this car uses a tranny with a slipper clutch which makes it difficult to fit the cross braceintended to be mounted just in front of the spur. Both Douwe and I used v1 AX10 trannys with no slippers while designing the chassis so we did not realize the Axial trannys have changed and as far as I know they all come with a slipper clutch nowadays.

So I have made a custom cross brace available to anyone who wants to use a slipper clutch. Here's a pic of it:

From now on all chassis's will have this brace included. If you got a chassis but no custom brace, let me know and I'll send one to you.

Tomi
thats cool that is my rigg (the two foto.s above) ;)

Yeah, I've talked to both of them. I especially like RCBros' full BTA, but it looks to me like his shocks had to lay back a lot to clear the servo, and that probably won't work well with the fwd-chassis SuDu. Harvo said that his layout was with plastic XR steering pieces and wasn't compatible with the VP Wraith stuff we all use. pDog also said something about the low plate not working with his SuDu.

I've worked my BTA tierod into a nice space below and behind the servo plate but above the driveshaft. I like how that's shaping up. Don't have a servo/draglink plan I like yet.

A couple of pics of what I was talking about. The front of the electronics tray is down 3/4" from the servo plate, but because it's spaced down on slightly curved bolts, the tray climbs at an angle staying just above the driveshaft. Ignore the rough construction...still in mock up.
