| "Two Roads to The Taupo 1000"
Check out the Speed channel this weekend for "Two Roads to The Taupo 1000". I just caught a sneak-peek on the Tivo, and it looks like it should be pretty cool. And for all you Toyota fans out there, both of the teams they follow are driving FJ Cruisers.

Yeah - they are re-playing the Baja episode, too. On Friday, Baja is on at 8:00pm with Taupo on at 9:00pm (that's Eastern time). They're on again on Saturday at different times, too.

Taupo was cool, but I think the Baja one was better. One thing to be said about both though, excellent production values, and great camera shots all the way through!

What do you expect when one does it out of a Studio (which is super nice in real life ), and the other has tons of Racing Experience, A Huge Complex, experienced crew members (and a Design Team), and can build ANOTHER FJ (which happens to be sitting down the street, outside in the rain from me.. all alone!) Damn the Millens and their talented family! (They did Baja Better than me though.. Of three "attempts" I've completed one, broke myself on another, and broke the quad on the third...) Anyone want to build a truck for Baja? Use my shop |

Was weird to see what failed first for both teams....the steering knuckles ("uprights" as they refer to them in the show) I was part of the 4WD Toyota Owner team that entered an FJ Cruiser into the Baja 500 last year (Von Dutch covered rig), and the exact same part failed on our truck between the start and pit 1. Bent drivers knuckle. We were able to find someone from another team that had a BRAND NEW Tacoma and he let us swap out his good knuckle for the bent one. Got 'er back on the road, and it came into pit 2 with the same problem, but to both knuckles. We were out of the race at that point since it was 3 a.m. and there were no more Tacoma's as donors Think maybe Toyota should beef up that steering knuckle?? :-P |

Well, I will admit that the rag-tag rookie group seemed to have a lot more fun, with the random firework fun and all......they seemed to be a pretty goofy group of friends.

Yeah if I had to pick a team to be on it would be the guys with the blue FJ. They just look like they were having a blast, living the dream. The first driver was kicking it, the other guy seemed to worry to much and caused the rigs issues. That FJ was beat after they we done with it though. They need more reality type shows like this, they need to get rid of Pinks.
