Thinking of buying a Ford Expedition

Does anyone own or have owned a Ford Expedition? If so what do you think? I am looking at buying a 01 Eddie Bauer edition. It is 4wheel drive has the 5.4L and towing package. Any comments on it are appreciated.

our family have owned 2 ford Expeditions. one of the older models (like the one your looking at) and a newer 2004 model. I believe the 2001's had the solid front and rear axles. we never had any problems with the older one. It is like driving a truck. its built on a truck frame rather than a unabody type frame like the 2004's. our family will never buy a newer version. but we never had any problems with the 2001.

I have a 99 2wd with the 4.6Triton. It has been a good truck. Just a few things like it gets to missing once every year or so and has to have a plug and/or wire replaced. And 1 of the power locks is out. Just the usual stuff for a 9 year old truck with over 100k. I would buy the same truck over if I had it to do over and I am a Bowtie Guy!

I had a '97 5.4 [same style] for awhile, without a single problem. Great truck.

And the front end will be Ford's torsion bar SLA IFS, not SFA.

should ask Jason, I think he blew one up pretty easy.

I do know they blow the spark plugs out of the head fairly easily.

Owned a 97, no problems except the coil packs on each spark plug like to go out at unfortunate times. Only one on mine, but heard this was a known problem on the 5.4.
Horrible gas mileage, but you can haul a ton of shiat.

Yep, change the oil early and change it often. My decided it didn't like life and blew up.

My parents have an '01 5.4L 2wd Eddie Bauer edition. It has gone through numerous coil packs and has recently developed torque converter/transmission issues. It averages ~14mpg pretty much all the time. According to the techs, they do not like frequent short trips, which is about all it sees nowadays.

make sure its not too oily on the pan or from the block, and kinda check and see if the fittings have ever been touched on the front end. also check the rear diff gasket. i think the one you are looking at is indi suspension.

i see alot of these at jiffy lube and they are always full of oil underneath
