| All this "Stage" and "Level" crap
Is this crap annoying to anyone else? It's everywhere. 3/4 of the stuff for my Cummins is a "Stage 3" intake or injectors blah blah blah or the euro guys getting their "Level 10" body kit and now the AX and WK forums are swamped with this "Got the level 2 kit almost on".... stuff. WTF!? This stuff is stupid. Why can't we just say "extended links and a servo mount" instead of "Level 9 crawler kit" Or, 180 h.p. injectors instead of "Level 5 fuel kit"? Please tell me other people have had this thought.

I agree, I have been a member on subaru boards for over 5 years. All the new guys talk about "stages" all the time. When I started modding mine there was no such thing I went back to that site after not visiting much for a few years and I have no idea what they hell they are talking out.

I work in the auto parts world and I hear that crap all the time, but my absolute favourite is the guys that ask for a 3/4 race cam |

| well actually ,a "3/4 race" cam is a level 4 or some might say a stage 3 ...or is it a level 7 and stage 5....i think it depends on what kind of vehicle it's going in Last edited by TIMZKRAWLER; 02-27-2008 at 12:24 AM. |

Stages and levels are much much cooler. And most kiddies can count to ten right... so it's much easier to remember. Three is good but nine is better... not sure why but the number is higher so that is good right? Why bother with specs and details ;) . |

Sometime when I'm looking at certain things, my level 2 head will try to go to stage 2 and I have to tell it to calm down.

The Dungeons & Dragons crowd took over the performance automotive aftermarket when they failed to sell any +10 swords.

I'm in the same boat, I have an AFE "Stage 2" cold air intake on my Cummins, and I think it's stupid to call it that, but there is no other name for it. | |

a cold air intake with a "stage"? WTF? you mean just the tube and filter? now thats taking it WAY too far. what does a stage 3 have a bigger tube and a better filter?

No, it has a lot to do with the box and the tube that runs to it. A cold air on a Dodge sucks air in the very back of the hood on the passenger side. And the "tube" that runs to it from the turbo is a little bigger and smoother than a "stage 1"

so they purpously kink the stage 1 bad, to make it worse than the stage 2? not pointing fingers at you. pointing at the manufacture, thats dumb. there aint 1 hp diffence from one CA to another, even between manuactures. now lets say a stage 1 was just a tube and filter. and stage 2 hand a long tube that went into the fender (a la LT1 camaro or mustang) or went to an open area with a heat shield or something i could understand that. but once you get to a 3-3.5" tube anything else is just braggin rights. no HP gains. |

I don't know a whole lot about the S1, but I've heard trucks with it and I've heard mine and I know mine sucks in MUCH more air and I can hear the turbo A LOT more than a S1.

What annoys me most is when the stage is all the information that is given. Sure, a stage 3 is (theoretically) better than a stage 1, but using what measurements? Is the performance difference between a stage 1 and stage 3 turbo the same as the performance difference between stage 1 and 3 headers? What about two different manufacturer's stage 2 air intakes? It's all marketing. Higher stages are better, but they don't tell you why or how much. If I go to buy a servo, I want to know Oz/In, transit speed, amount of rotation, gear type, amp draw, and physical size. Try to sell me a stage 4 steering servo and I'll tell you where you can put it ;) |
