Default Thinking of starting a buisness,

Hello, i am looking into buying a mill lathe to start a buisness. i am wondering what things would you all be interested in, i would do wheels, beadlocks, chassis, custom stuff, wheel wideners, adaptors, name tags, key chains, signs, ect.

what i need is a list of people and stuff they would buy. i would also get a vendor star for legal purpose. thanks.

Steel or aluminum clod knuckles, hubs, and axle tubes. Something that DOESNT cost a fortune.

I would recommend getting a vendor star before you start pitching any products.

Just my .02.

I will take a bottle opener.

I don't think he is pitching products just yet. He is fine without a vendor star for now.

Magic, Keep in mind Jason and I own the RCC name so any products made by you with our logo or name would need to be approved by Jason and/or I.

I would hope you have another job. Most of the vendors here will say any money they make on their products is spent on gas to get to the shipping center or replacing end bits and such. Not alot of profit is available. Its a fun, rewarding experience, but it'd take you alot of product to recoop the costs of the mill/ bits/ oil.

You would also have to show some ingenuity, and the thing I think is most important, customer service.

I say go for it.

This semester I am going to try and volunteer at the highschool I went to, help around in the CAD/shop classes, where I'll have access to the CNC every week.

This is a must needed, unless you are quite wealthy.

Shipping center? I walk across the street to the USPS. Or ship from work. Boxes are free from USPS. Bits and pieces are all from online wholesale business. Helps with costs.

What are you talking about... I was able to enjoy a #2 at McD's after that last bathc of Bulu's

Money can be made. You just have to pay close attention to things.

Customer Service is key.... sure there are a few people on here that can't stand me but that's because I'm real. I don't kiss much ***. RCRG has been quite helpfull to many people, free parts and free next day services. We try to have items up on display at the comps for people to check out.

Most important is do what you want and try to have fun. Trust me.... the fun can go away.

If you decide to get into the Crawler business..... feel free to PM me. Kevin and I try to stay in touch often... even though we would be considered competition, we keep it friendly competition

There are a lot of ups.... and downs to this very small market. Basicly every penny you recieve means you must put in two pennies just to stay floating, otherwise you start to sink

if you spent only one and a half hours on the chassis you would have to value your time at less than 10 dollars an hour to profit after materials. and that doesnt incude time to ship and sell. im not going to sell something if i cant make more than 10 bux an hour for my time.

well truly 50 bux an hour is what i value my time at. im just not there yet. my productivity isnt high enough yet.

here's the problem: you're trying to sell stuff that's already made to guys who like to make stuff! by the time you amortize the equipment, pay for shipping, etc you'd end up with something cool that took you 2 hours to make, that you'd have to sell for $40 to break even. most of us will look at it and say, forty bucks, eff dat, i can make my own in two hours!

unless the stuff you're making is flat-out hella cool, and demonstrably better than we hacks can make in our basements. but making it look good takes extra time, so you're back where you started.

remember what Mickey Rourke told William Hurt in Body Heat: "any time you try and do a crime, you got fifty ways you can **** up. you think a half a them, you're a genius. and you ain't no genius."

just my $.02
