Default Tesla is probably turning in his grave

http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/08/22/w....ap/index.html

Wireless transmission of power was THE goal Tesla had.

I have several books on the man here. He was the Father of AC, Father of the Radio, Father of Radio Control, and several other things.

The man was a fukin' genius if there ever was one. EVERYTHING he wanted to create worked.

A little info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikola_Tesla

An excerpt...

Immediately after Tesla's death became known, the government's Alien Property Custodian office took possession of his papers and property, despite his US citizenship. His safe at the hotel was also opened. At the time of his death, Tesla had been continuing his work on the teleforce weapon, or death ray, that he had unsuccessfully marketed to the US War Department. It appears that his proposed death ray was related to his research into ball lightning and plasma, and was imagined as a particle beam weapon. The US government did not find a prototype of the device in the safe. After the FBI was contacted by the War Department, his papers were declared to be top secret. The so-called "peace ray" constitutes a part of some conspiracy theories as a means of destruction. The personal effects were seized on the advice of presidential advisers; J. Edgar Hoover declared the case most secret, because of the nature of Tesla's inventions and patents.[98] One document states that "[he] is reported to have some 80 trunks in different places containing transcripts and plans having to do with his experiments [...]". Charlotte Muzar reported that there were several "missing" papers and property.

Tesla's family and the Yugoslav embassy struggled with the American authorities to gain these items after his death due to the potential significance of some of his research. Eventually, his nephew, Sava Kosanoviċ, won possession of some of his personal effects, which are now housed in the Nikola Tesla Museum in Belgrade, Serbia.[99] Tesla's funeral took place on January 12, 1943, at the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine in Manhattan, New York City. His body was cremated and his ashes taken to Belgrade, Yugoslavia in 1957. The urn was placed in the Nikola Tesla Museum, where it resides to this day.

Saw the Special on Modern Marvels A week or so ago. Definetly a visionary. The radio was a by-product of the intended "wireless" electricity. But they also said he talked to aliens too

He knew that the Earth's resonant frequency was 8Hz.

He said time and time again that he could create a device that would split the world in half.

If you read that Wiki page you'll see that Tesla's 8Hz theory was confirmed in the 1950's.

Oh yeah, the guy was truly one of the greatest minds of the world. period. He was another Einstein. He invented so many things it's not even funny. but unfortunately was not a good businessman.

Edison screwed him out of a lot of his work. And took credit for most of it.

My final senior paper in high school was all about him. 36 pages of it. And it didn't even scratch the surface of who he was and what he really did. The guy was just amazing. I spent six months researching for this paper. I probably found over 100 books on the guy, lots of copies of hand-written notes of his on the internet, I even tried to see if the Tesla Museum had any copies or scanned pages of his notes. Never heard back from them, though.

He was so far ahead of his time (and even ours) that most people called him mad. But the stuff he came up with was the stuff of science-fiction books today...

Harmonic Earthquake generators (one that actually DID generate a recorded 3.5 on the richter scale in the town where his workshop was located)

A way to transmit energy wirelessly, which was the foundation for modern Radio and Cell-Phone technology (Tesla actually is creadited with the idea of the wireless phone) He even began construction of a wireless-transmission tower, called the Wardenclyffe tower.

Wikipedia link to the tower:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wardenclyffe_Tower

But money ran out and the tower was never finished.

One event the wikipedia doesn't tell about, however, was the "death ray" invention came from the one and only attempt Tesla made to try and use the tower. As investors pulled out one by one, and the money ran dry, Tesla became increasingly desperate. So, as a final try to get investors before the property was foreclosed upon, Tesla announced he would use the un-finished tower to light up the "Aurora Borealis". And it possibly could have worked, but Tesla's calculations were off (because at the time the scientifically-accepted Electrical charge of the earth itself was wrong) instead of lighting up the Aurora Borealis, nothing happened. Supposedly.

That is until reports that something like 200 square miles of rainforest had suddenly been pretty much VAPORIZED somewhere in (I believe) South Africa.

I even found a document that he wrote describing the theories and ideas behind a disc-shaped air-borne vehicle powered by a magnetic field generated by running current across the outer shell. He described testing of models and found that accelleration was almost instantaneous, the vehicle made no noise, glowed with a light blue light all across it's outer shell, would distort the ground vegetation underneath it due to the magnetic field which was pushing against the opposite magnetic field of the earth and it would resemble the shape of the craft. (Uhhh... crop circles anyone?) Due to the magnetic field propulsion systemwhich would act against the earths gravity to propel it, the aircraft would have no inertia (would be essentially "weightless") and therefore could perform maneuvers impossible with any other aircraft.

Hmmm... sounds like THE DESCRIPTION OF EVERY SINGLE U.F.O. you've ever heard of huh?

And this isn't just crazy talk, or conspiracy theory, either. This all cold hard fact. (I know it's all just too hard to believe.)

And the craziest part? He had no insterest whatsoever in making money off his stuff. His greatest goal was to provide all of these things FREE to the world.

Well, he wanted to make money, but only enough to keep going with his research.

Unfortunately, most of his greatest inventions have been "buried" over time and he's slowly been made out to be a "mad scientist".

Oh, and did you guys know he was the inventor of R/C vehicles? One of hsi favorite things to mess with when he needed to think was his R/C Boat.

I agree, he was the greatest mind the world has ever known, or will probably ever know...because all of today's great minds are only great due to the work Tesla has already done, over 70 years ago!

I'm not sure what pisses you off about that article-they aren't claiming to have invented anything. Granted they don't mention Tesla, but that could just be CNN's mistake.

I wonder what kind of inventions he could've created with modern day technology.

JIA's point was that Tesla was right and he wasn't nuts.

...and that he'd have done it years ago.

If he was alive today he'd most likely point out where they screwed up.

Sounds much like living under power lines and stealing electricity by running an electric fence under them.

It's a pity edison gets so much credit, tesla was twice the scientist. Edison was persistent and a good businessman, but he was a dumbfawk. If edison had his way, there would have to be a power plant in every neighborhood. Tesla was the champion of AC current, which makes long distance transmission possible, where edison wanted DC running to houses because the math is easier Thats a really interesting article though.
Oh javelin, did you know that Hedy LaMarr invented spread spectrum frequency hopping technology, and that system is used on phones, wi-fi, RC radios and all kinds of other stuff. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hedy_Lamarr Lets see if any modern actresses are smart enough to do that.

The band that named themselves after him put out some pretty good tunes in the 80's. That is actually how I first heard of the man Tesla.
